If money is not an issue, then RedTop is def. the way to go.

Optima's are no doubt great batteries, you pay more because it is a dry cell battery hence designed for marine and off road use ( lots of bouncing around, not good for acid cell batteries) but for street applications it's total overkill according to my pal who owns a battery shop, but he does say if you have the money to burn he'll sell you one!

the lower cranking red top i believe is $109 and the higher cranking (800 cc, 950 ca) should be $118. if moneys not an issues optima is def the way to go.

I will need a new battery soon as well; I had a few batteries Interstate Megatron (top of the line) on about 3 cars; they lasted me about 4-5 years each and paid $60-70. If I had the money will buy Optima red because my car is red, but first will find out if is true that they last longer, maybe 8-10 years. Hope they get cheaper $80. But if they cost $110-120 and last you same 5 years is not worth it as per can buy 2 new Interstate, besides nobody looks inside hood but me and the mechanic. If somebody knows how long they last let us know.

my understanding is that the redtop has slightly higher CCA (I think) and is cheaper, while the yellow top won't get hurt from repeatedly draining and recharging, so it's good if you like to listen to the radio without the car on.

No Optima will get hurt from draining and recharging, that is what they are made for.

yellow is better if the engine is off but radio is on. when the engine is on, all the power is generated from the alternator. when its off vise versa

Why is that? I thought that the yellow top wan't hurt by being drained and recharged repeatedly, but dmontzsta says the red top is the same way.

Yellow top is a deep cycle battery. I have one in my car. It has a much greater reserve capacity and it is often used for those who have systems because with its larger reserve capcity it can withstand more of a beating. Thats just my understanding of it, there may be more or different opinions on it. And btw, I got mine for free. I work at the zone, , and some people bought a battery and were so pissed about the core that they brough in a brand new yellow top and demanded that we use that as their core. Needless to say my maxima had a battery swap very fast. And the core was for our top of the line valuecrap battery that they bought. What a trade

Be carefull in your selection the optima battries have one specifically for starting and one that is deep cell specific for systems. Double check their web sites, if I'm correct the baterries have a different shade of gray to tell the difference.

Just like most of the guys have said, the yellowtops are deep cycle batteries, especially good for guys with systems in their cars ( I actually killed a yellowtop), and the red tops are excellent for cold cranking amperage and can be used if you have a system.
