I don't think the engine and tranny will come out the top if they are still matted(Definitely not if auto). I connected the cherry picker chains to the LIM. I used the two studs in the LIM with big @ss washers and the OEM UIM bolts. It worked fine and the LIM didn't do any complaining. The rope is just there as precaution.

I've taken mine out with the one hooked to the motor mount and the other to a starter bolt. Thats with the tranny taken out already. Was gonna pull it all together but I think there was someting in the way. My buddy pulled his out together with no problems but he has no ABS which if I remember right there was a module that sits by the intake that made it a lot more difficult for me to pull the motor and trans together. Both of us took the hood off too so we didn't have any cherry picker clearance.
However, I did put the tran and motor in together but I had to angle the motor at a really steep angle to clear. take some work but can be done. Good Luck.

The two points that worked well for me are the passenger side MOTOR MOUNT *yes broanar lol* and then the topmost bolt hole that goes through the tranny. I just stuck a bolt through a few chain links and tightened her down.

Appreciate the replies. I just figured out for myself yesterday that the tranny has to be removed beforehand.
The crank pulley wouldn't clear the frame when i was trying to remove it. So blah blah blah....off comes the tranny then i'll remove the engine from the top. I routed 2 towing straps around the lower IM and they're rated at over 900 lbs. combined so i have some headroom as far as that is concerned.

nissan sells a specific bracket that can bolt into your block to pull the engine out from the top. At the rear of the engine there is already a bracket pointed upwards that you can bolt that to, as for the front I am unsure of the location

The LIM is working fine...
