So my tranny blew out monday. I am getting it repaired at Kennedy Transmission. They sent me this repair order today. They are also fixing the CV joint on both sides.

Does this seem to be a "fair" deal? The labor seems to be what is really killing me. I'd like to get the work done through a reputable shop so it will be covered by a warranty, so I'm willing to pay a bit more for that security.

I'd just buy a used transmission and have it installed. They can be had for $400-600 for an automatic. Installed for about a grand all together.. maybe $1300 if you need half shafts.

It would "only" be 2 grand if I weren't getting the CV's fixed at the same time. I also don't want to buy a used tranny, because I wouldn't have any kind of guarantee on it. And I would like the max back ASAP... I hate not having a car.

 

Well if you buy a used Auto with under 50k miles, you can pretty much bet it will last another 100k miles if maintained. The Automatics are very reliable in these cars from what I've seen. I work with a Master Nissan Tech and he agrees.

www.car-part.com can be your friend. I just bought my 2001 Manual by using that site to locate one and couldn't be happier. You can search right in Minneapolis - it's one of the major cities listed.

 

So your paying $1000 for the CV's to be fixed? That's a rip off. CV's are $60 a peice at autozone, and the labor is one hour per side.

Try Cottman transmissions. they charge a $65 labor charge (by me) and do a good job. www.cottman.com From what I see, they have a shop in your area. You should get Nissan D tranny fluid.
