what tires do you run?

I'm looking for 245/40/18's for my ride, but not sure what to get. I need high performance tires in dry/wet/snow. What tires do you have, and how do they perform in dry/wet/snow conditions?

FYI, there's a wheels/tires forum just for questions like this...im sure you will get much more sophisticated replies if you post it there (that is, if a mod doesnt move it)

I run Toyo Proxes 4s. Really good rubber, great dry and wet traction. Haven't tried in the snow yet. Best all season performance tires I've owned.

Falken ZX512. Handle/grip great. Wet traction is frigin awesome! And snow traction is pretty decent, too. Great tires. My next setup will be Toyo Proxes 4, another fantastic set of tires.

I've had the Falken 512...very good in dry, wet, snow.....kind of loud, and a little too soft for my taste. Overall a very good value, and good performance for daily driving unless you drive like a maniac....quite inexpensive also

I now have the Toyo Proxes 4 (NOTE: NOT the Proxes FZ4), and they are the best tire I've ever owned (spanning 8 cars and almost 15 years).....excellent in wet, grip like a **** dry, and they are very quiet for a performance tire. Ride quality is excellent, even on my 18's.....Highly suggested Cost a little more than the Falkens, but worth the extra $$....still a hellovalot cheaper than the Pilot Sport A/S, and the Proxes 4 are superior IMO....

Im runnin Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's and ive had them in all conditions and they rock! It totally changes the ride and handling of the car. Course, it will be more dramatic once I get the coilovers, braces and mounts on.

depends on the size....my 235/40/18 Proxes 4 were about $120 each....
The Falken 512's in that size would have been around $105 or so, as I recall...

check out www.edgeracing.com - this place has the best prices around, and shipping is freaking fast as hell!!! (and cheap)

I also ordered my Hankook Ventus R-S2's from them (for autocross), and have been extremely pleased with their great prices and fast service.

riddle me this... Why the the factry ones are more expensive than the Toyo you are referring. On tirerack the price is 160.00 each... or close to that... 17 factory rims... I will look into those when the time comes...thanks Irish...

Because buying tires is one of those very, very rare things where "you get what you pay for" can never come into play. Bridgestone over prices all of their garbage anyways, so does Michelin.

Goodyear Eagle F1 245/45ZR18, no more howling and squeeling in the corners, nice riding tire, best wet traction available.

I have Dunlop SP5000 A/S and they are really wonderful tires, good wet/dry traction and above all soft when going over threddles and less road noise.

I have heard very good reviews about Michellin A/S's too but I cannot afford them.....

I have Toyo Proxes FZ4. It is a really good tire especially for wet traction. I have not lost control or hydroplaned in the rain yet with these. I definitely recommend this tire. Also http://www.tirerack.com/ has reviews of some tire brands.

--OEM Bridgetone RE040s where OK tires for me 205-65-15 size, ran them in the winter only and for 2 months before I got my big wheels
--Dunlop SP W10s- POS tires, very loud, soft sidewall, pretty good in the rain- 235-40-18
--Bridgestone Potenza S03- 245-35-18- realllllly overrated tires, noisy, one of them the belt shifted on inside and tire was out of round, wet performance was good, dry performance was better than any tire I had on the car at that point.
--Yokohama AVS Intermediate- 225-50-16- best tire I ever had period, some 300ZX guys still swear by them as they got stiff sidewalls, VERY quiet ride, stick in the dry like a ****, very little hydroplaning compared to the SO3s that would hydroplane VERY eassy. They where THE best tires I ever owned- cost me 50 bux each from Tire Rack due to them being discontinued.
--Yokohama ES100s- 225-50-16- after the AVS wore off I needed new tires, so I tried these "AVS Intermediate Repleacements", very stiff sidewall, noisy, traction was always an issue in the dry for me- tires felt very plasticky and even looked like plastic on the treads. Wet performance really good. Tracked uneven pavement really good compared to S03s that would be all over uneven roads. Decent tires in the snow actually, on par with my stock RE040s.
--Nitto 555R- 245-45-17- came with my 17" wheels with only a few K miles on them, was impressed with how quiet they where, and dry performance was on par with the Yoko AVS Inter, Wet performance wasn't so good due to its design being really a dry tire. VERY bad tires to be in snow with.
--Falken Azenis Sport- 245-40-17s, ties for my favorite tire overall- dry traction I give it a A+ awesome tires if where you live- dont snow or rain, and they emit ZERO noises at any speed. They wear very quick but they where not too expenssive compared to the Potenza SO3s. Rain traction is pretty bad, they hydroplane eassy and I wouldn't wanna be driving in the rain on them at speeds over 65MPH. Snow traction ? forget it- if you push you car around the AutoX- these are THE tires to get, awesome tires for the $$$.
--Bridgestone Turanza LS - 235-45-17- OEM tires on the 04 TLs, not noisy at all, traction in the rain was really good- 80MPH in heavy downpour would send my car into a ditch on Azenis, where these handled those speeds without a problem. These are touring tires so they are expected to last long and they did manage to last 2x as long as any other tires. Dry traction was so so, they have soft sidewalls and allow too much flex to the sidewall under hard cornering.
--Dunlop SP9000s-255-40-17- Wet traction, superb, dry traction almost as good as the Azenis, wear very quick and for some reason bubble out on sidewall under the slightest pot hole impact. I never gotten a bubble in the tire- other than a Potenza SO3 but these had bubbles in them after I removed them this winter for my Blizzaks. Sidewall wasn't stiff enough for my taste, steering response wasn't as sharp as my Yoko AVS or Azenis.
--Blizzaks- speak for themselfs- Terrible tires in good weather, terrible tires in the rain, Awesome tires in the snow, don't try to autoX on these fellas !

Tires on order for my ride right now- New Falken Azenis Sport that just came out- 255-40-17 I am a Azenis sport lover, nothing beats them as far as dry performance tire goes, handling and response.

I am a very hard driver and go through tires like there aint no tomorrow, when I remove my tires no one will wanna reuse them on another car for sure. I don't drag race or do burnouts.

Why not order more Yokohama AVS Intermediate?

BTW, I have Nitto 555's and absolutely hate them. Easy to spin in the top of 2nd on dry pavement. 1st and 2nd gear in wet conditions is horrible. As they wore out, torque steer became a big problem.

Yoko AVS Intermediates are no longer made- hence why I got them from TireRack at 50 bux each 2 years ago- they where trying to clear out their inventory of old tires that are no longer made.

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S are your best bet. They are splendid.
The M&S stand for Mud and Snow. They are ultra high performance tires and can handle the muck.

How long have you had them and what has the ride been like? This was my first pick before a friend recommended the gawd awful Nittos to me.

I have had them about 9 months I guess. The ride is very good. The tires stick well and provide excellent traction. They have gone through a winter and seen snow and ice. They did very well. They held their ground quite nicely. I highly doubt you would be disappointed with them if you had troubles with the Nittos.

I am running a set of Goodyears on stock 17" rims. They are not great, but they are hands down better than the Potenzas.

Just ordered up a set of Dunlop Direzza DZ101 from TireRack.com 4 in 255-40-17 size for grand total of 452.20 shipped to my door. I can't be showing pics of my car on the .org with my mismatched winter tires :P
