WTF: in neutral and RPMs bounce off rev limiter

Accelerated in first gear to get across traffic, shift to 2nd and then the RPM's just started bouncing off the rev limiter with the engine roaring. I shifted to neutral and it contiuned about four times bouncing off the rev limiter without my foot anywhere near the gas...WTF...it then finally stopped....then it happened again 5 minutes later, similar scenario.

I just had a brand new clutch and rebuilt trans today. Anyone else with this experience or know what the problem is. The transmission shop is closed for the weekend so no way to get a hold of them.

Thanks for any help.

Check your throttle cable.

sounds like your throttle is sticking. Make sure the cable isn't catching on anything.

the deposits on the sleeve of the throttle cable might make the cable stick, try inspecting it and clean if there is build up

This is exactly what my problem was. This is a good thing for everyone to keep in mind and should make sure to check anytime they get work done or do it themselves b/c it really could have turned into a dangerous situation, I was just fortunate.

THanks for the help everyone, you guys were right on!
