Flaps underneth the front bumper

So i was changing my oil this weekend and i was looking for the filter. I unscrewed the 2 flaps directly under the bumper and most of the screws are rusted so they broke. Yeah i know i should have checked the forums first since its not even located over the flaps. So now the flaps are loose and anytime the wind picks up i hear a clapping noise. Do i need these flaps or can i just take them off ?

yes I belive he is. They prevent water and dirt from getting into important things, such as your belts and pulleys, so they are rather important.

The splash gaurds in both my dad's and my max are removed. The ones that go over the tires are still there but not the ones that are right behind the front bumper. I haven't noticed any negative effects to this. Sometimes if I hit a big puddle, I will get steam from under the hood from water getting in there, but its no big deal. My bolts were all rusted too and were breaking off, so I took out the splash gaurds. I haven't had any problem with water getting on the pulleys or causing any damage in the engine bay, so I'd say go ahead and pull them off.

i need to pick up a new one...mine is bent out of shape from the previous owner, looks like it was bent somehow the wrong way so it hangs down and looks ugly.

i'd keep them on there to prevent water and junk from going up excessively. my friends car stalls out everytime there are decent puddles in the road and i bet it wouldn't if he had these on his car.

Screw remover, or drill it and tap a new hole.

i don't know if there is a screw remover so think... this srew is a philliphs-10mm head and it holds both the end of wheel well flap and a foglight flad together to the car....

yes thats the flap im talking about they atually sell a kit that drills ahole into the screw then u unscrew it and it takes the nail it worked for a concrete nail i think it can take off a 10 mm nut but ya those tend to get rusted the most
very fast because they are located udner the car

to answer your question yes you do need them especially if you have an intake but if not you still do there alot of wires very close and the oil filter is right there not something you wanan risk especially on the NewYork streets

I have noticed tghat all 4th gen max's have that "bent" look closest to the pasanger side- I thought mine was busted too when I got mine- But I then noticed the same exact thing on every other max. I think the engine sheilds are just precut that way.
