Shudder?

Ok, I've got this shudder when starting from a dead stop, or accelerating from 5mph, as going arround a corner. The propeller shaft seems to be tight, IE no loose u-joints. Could it be the center support? It's an '84 maxima wagon, 167,000 miles, coil spring rear, with the damper missing, but a solid bar replacing it which did nothing for the shudder! Earl

I know the tranny dosn't slip, so I've already counted that out. I need to jack it up, and run it and see if I can duplicate the rumble while under it, and someone inside applying the parking brake, and giving it some gas at the same time. I think I'd be able to find it! Earl

I checked the driveshaft with the car on a lift, and the axle suported, and found the front u-joint is worn! I'm looking into a local shop that can replace a "non replacable u-joint" Has anyone done this with good results? Earl

They are staked on - a good driveshaft shop can do it...in some cases, they can "rework" the OEM shaft to accept normal, replacable U-Joints...they did it for my dad's on Pontiac wagon...

I was quoted "arround $200.00" to replace the 2 yolks on the front driveshaft by a local shop, then checked on line at "driveshaft specialists Inc." and they build a complete new driveshaft, center bearing, and greasable u-joints for $239.00 with free shipping. Thats the way I'm going to go, if I can't find a good front 1/2. Earl

The new one piece shaft is in, and gone is the rumble! It makes one wonder why Nissan used a 2 piece, with a support bearing to begin with, as a 1 piece fits without a problem????
