Wtf! Why does my car clock randomly reset itself???

This happened for the third time. Yesterday, I hopped in my car after not driving it for a couple of days, and I noticed the clock said 1:00! (not 12:00, which I thought was wierd.) The correct real time was clearly 7:30. Once again, I had to set the correct time.

Maybe a short? Any other explanation? Thanks!

*checks the dimmer switch*.... hmm, yup! it works!
How exactly does one "check" the dimmer switch?? You mean like pull apart my dash?

battery seems good.

my car reads 1:00 when the battery is disconnected. I think thats the default time. Check the harness behind the clock

to that. The clock will read 1:00 after loss of power. It sounds like the power wire to the clock is loose/intermittently disconnecting (or you have a bad solder joint).

hmmm, interesting. btw, what's a solder joint? (newbie talkin here). Is it the joint that connects the clock to the power wire???

I had the same thing...its a stupid maxima clock problem...unless you want to bother with opening it up and soldering random wires (unless you can actually figure them out which I doubt), you should just buy a new clock and 4get about it as I did

I believe that will make your clock "bright" all the time - it won't dim with the headlights or brightness control dial.

Sort of. In your case the power wire is part of the harness plug, which plugs into the harness connector at the back of the clock. Perhaps on of the pins on the connector - that is soldered onto the circuit board, is cracked/intermittent.

The quickest fix is to replace the clock. You can probably pick up a cheap replacement off Ebay or try posting in the 4th Gen classifieds forum.
