Installed my Frakencar intake...but problem!!!
This afternoon I installed my Frankencar + Apex'i filter intake. Install was smooth, although that bolt that holds the stock airbox behind the battery was a pain to get to. Finished installing and tightening everything, including the bracket from the MAF to the where the shock/strut is. BUT, when I drive around, such as cruising at 1000-2500rpm, I hear this RAPID duh-duh-duh-duh sound. Also hear it when I come to a stop, and when I go past 2500rpm along with the awesome growl.
Any ideas what the problem could be? I was looking at the AM600 MAF and noticed that there was a tiny thin wire in the middle, which looked fragile and def could break if too much vibration exist. Could it be the bracket making the noise? Or the air filter touching the engine bay? There is maybe 1-2mm of space between my filter and the engine bay. I associate the noise with vibration, and knowing the history of the MAF and the thin little wire...must stop before I shell out $500 for a ne MAF. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help!I dont think the wire broke, If you diddint drop the MAF or got oil on it should be fine, but the noise i have no idea mb when u acclerate the filter moves and hits the chassis

glad to hear you have the FC intake installed...but be extremely careful, I blew 4 MAFs from vibration. The thin wire in the MAF is the thermistor wire, they will not break loose from vibration. Make sure you space the parts out with the couplers (for example...dont let there be contact between the TB and the midpipe). As for the noise you are getting...I think it is just the filter vibration against the hood.
Ok, the MAFs do not die from vibration. I dropped my intake tude with the MAF inside off my kitchen counter and nothing happened. I must have been lucky or vibration is not the cause of a dead MAF.
A new MAF costs around $102, not $400. My Stealer said my MAF was bad and needed replacing to the tune of $400ish. I did a search here and found he was mistaken or lying to me. So I called up the parts department where the car was being repaired. Their own parts department quoted me $102 when the service advisor quoted me $400......go figure

OK, from what I can hear, I think I fixed the problem. I bought 2 rubber grommets, and a metal washer, and put them under the bracket to give it a approx. half inch raise. So far no more rubbing air filter sound.
