My foot is off the gas yet my engine still revs..

I put my car in PARK and I noticed that my my rpms were going up as if my foot was still pressed on the gas.

I shut down the car and open up the hood to check out the throttle wire thingy (don't know what it's called so please bear with my ignorance).

When you push down on the gas, you know how the wire pulls on that metal thing which basically opens up the throttle? Well, sometime it's not going all the way back down when the gas is released.

So I kinda pulled the wire and sprayed a little WD40 on it to make sure that it moved properly and everything seems to be fine for now.

Anyone else experience this?

Or can anyone recommend what i should do to make sure this doesnt happen again?

Thanks in advance....

Its possible that your throttle cable is sticking. And the thing that opens up is called your throttle body just so you know.

it's not the cable that's sticking, I tested that. It's the part that the cable is actually pulling....

Was the engine cold like you just started it? I noticed my car will rev to 1100 when first started, then drop back to 700ish for idle once warmed up.
