6th Gen 17" Tire Replacement
6th Gen 17" Tire Replacement
I've always thought I'd want to change out the continental contitours that were on my car when it was time - but after doing some reading up, I'm almost convinced to just buy 4 more. I'd be getting 225/55/17's but I thought I'd solicit for other options before I buy.
Kumho ECSTA ASX seems like a contender though - the ratings seem a little higher, I like the tread pattern, and they're about the same price.
I live in FLorida so I dont care about snow traction.
Anything opinions or options??

I made a thread about some tires I ordered that look promising called the EVO-Z, listed under the Kelly brand. They were recommended by the manager at my local Tire Factory (west coast tire chain), which also carries most of the major brands, so it's not like he was pushing them on me. He claims they are superior to the Toyo Proxes FZ4 (which I had and liked) and are probably the best import tire for the cost, which is around $120 each for 225/45/17s. I was looking at some Z rated Goodyear Eagle F1s and he said he would take the EVO-Zs, since they are quite a bit less.
I ordered a set for my Maxima and I should have them on tomorrow or Friday and I will review them soon. I was kind of sold on the fact they are Z rated, have a AA traction rating and still have a treadwear rating of 420. Plus, they have a thick rubber "lip protector" that helps avoid curb damage.
No one else on this site seems to know too much about them, but they come with a warranty and Tire Factory here is very good if you have any problems. All of our Postal vehicles have tires/wheels/alignments/repairs from the same shop and they are very easy to work with.

Sounds interesting, some jerkoff backed into me the other day, scratching one of my rims up, and now I am facing the possiblity of getting new rims as well - need to get an insurance estimate to see how much out of pocket it would cost to get the whole shabang.
I know the maint. forum doesnt get much traffic, but does ANYONE else have input on tires for the 6th gen stock 17" rims?? 225/55/17 ??

If it's not too bad, you can get the rim fixed for $129, including return shipping.

Matt93SE pointed me to this site and the Wheels America store in San Francisco is pretty easy to work with.
Oh, I got my tires the other day and took the car for a little drive. They are NICE on dry pavement. Far superior to the Proxes FZ4s I had previously.
As far as replacement tires, opinions on are pretty broad on this board. Even varying from tire to tire under the same brand.
Maybe look at some varying reviews. The stock size on your car is basically a performance size, so you are going to have a lot of choices. It also depends on what you want out of your tires -- performance in dry weather, tread life, better rain handling.
I would look into Toyo Proxes 4, Falken Ziex 512, Michelin Pilot Sports. These are tires I would probably get. Maybe some Pirellis.

Thanks very much for the advice.
I get paid this week so I'll probably do some looking this weekend and order tires by Monday. I can deal with the fender and the rim either through insurance or whatever at my convenience.
