Those with 5th gen clutch in 4th gen, I have a question

What parts did you buy? I was under the impression that I could get all fifth gen (00-01) parts and it would bolt right up to my 95GXE. I am planning on ordering a fifth gen: Pressure Plate, Clutch Disc, Throw Out bearing, and pilot bushing. Is this correct? I have heard mixed thoughts, but I would like to hear from the people who actually put one of these in there fourth gen. Thanks for your help.

i put a 5th gen on my 97 and I bought the 5th gen clutch, PP, and TB. So far the setup is great, it all bolts up perfectly, plus I believe it is cheaper than the 4th gen setup. go for it!

I plan on doing this if/when it needs replacement. I'm at 90k and the original stock is still holding strong.

the best setup ive seen and have is...
throw out bearing(5th gen) 30502-41U20
Clutch disc (3rd gen,is thicker and bigger thus lasts longer) C0100-6E600
Pressure plate or Clutch cover(5th gen) 30210-89F00
I also assisted Eckohb in installing this same setup in his 95 and boy does it grip hard! Ive never really heard of anyone else using that part # for the disc but i would highly recomend it.

I've heard you don't need the pilot bushing, but I may be wrong. I bought the 5th gen. early model Pressure Plate, 5th gen. Clutch Disk, and 5th gen. Throwout bearing. Those 3 (or four parts if the pilot bushing is actually necessary for the install) is all you need. Cool idea with the 3rd gen disk though!

why would you not need the pilot bushing? Do they not wear out?

IIRC, when I was researching my clutch swap right around the time that JSutter was first installing his, I was not told to get a pilot bushing. Later on, I remember reading why it was not needed, but can't remember the explaination. I replaced the pressure plate, disk, and throwout bearing when I had my clutch replaced.

well i ordered it as being a 3rd gen disc, if you look up the part # on jrnissanparts.com it says: Nissan Maxima 1989-1994 All applications news to me if it is the actual 5th gen clutch disc but i understood it to be the 3rd.

You don't need the pilot bushing at all. I've been running without one for over 5K. Why? I don't know...ask BlackBIRDVQ.

It's only like a five dollar part at the dealership, I don't know what it is for. Could anyone explain what it does and why you would or would not need one.

I'd say pm BlackBIRDVQ, becuase I really don't know what it's for and why I didn't have to replace it. I was just told to buy the three parts said above, and that was it.

If I've read correctly, the pilot bushing is in there but it *doesn't get used at all*. The transaxle input shaft doesn't have any sort of end on it that fits inside. So much for that
