Well unfortunantly it looks like my max is going to need to see a hitch for a few months until i figure something else out. I recently bought a new toy, see below picture. So i'm going to need to have something to tow it on in the spring. right now my buddy tows me with his blazer when we go out riding, but he will be leaving for the navy in march and ill have to tow mine occasionally. so for u guys with hitches please show me pictures of yours and tell me what brand it is. i know that some are more obvious then others. my friend who has the blazer had one on his berretta and i couldnt tell he had one till i saw him towin a trailer so im currious what ones look the least obvious on our cars. thanks guys.

While I cannot speak for the brand itself, Hidden Hitch has a very nice, less conspicuous hitch option for your maxima. The part number you would need is 60945 fora 1997 Maxima. This is a "no drill" hitch that uses existing mounting mounting holes on the car. The website is pretty informative, has lots of options. This hitch looks like a quality 30 lb product. I am buying one and will place a new post after the install (20 minutes according to manufacturer) Here's the link:

I've used the Uhaul one. pulled 2000 lbs for for 250 miles. works good. but I'd recommend hidden hitch if I was to do it over again...

 

I have a Class 1 Hidden Hitch that I installed on my 97 Max SE earlier this year to haul my 14 foot sailboat. The boat plus trailer probably weighs a total of 650 lbs and my car pulls it with no problems (even when pulling it out of the water on ramps).

The hitch bolts on and is pretty easy to install. It comes with everything you need. It comes with a black plastic receiver cover (that says "hidden hitch") but I lost it when I drove out of a steep driveway. Oh well. It's pretty inconspicuous anyway. The wiring harness (not included) splices into the wiring near the left taillight in the trunk. I keep the wire in the trunk and pull out just enough to get a good range of movement when hauling (closing the trunk on it).

I got the UHaul hitch on mine. Its pretty noticable looking at the back but what I like about it is that I can remove it in less than 10 minutes. I was able to pull a 96 Max on a car dolly with it with no problems, couldnt even tell it was back there.
The only thing I dont like about it is that I had to put my stock muffler back on so the hitch would clear it.

 

I got my Hidden Hitch off eBay for $100 two years ago or so. I tow with my I30 every week either going to get lumber, haul furniture, BBQ trailer or Christmas stuff. Tows wonderful.

Please, please install an auxiliary transmission cooler if you are going to tow. Makes the transmission much happier, cooler and last longer! They are less than $50 an take about an hour, including beer break, to install.

 

I installed a hidden hitch on my mothers wrangler last summer, took about 30 minutes.

A majority of that time spent was fishing bolts through the frame using some nifty long pieces of wire they provided that coil around the bolt threads to hold it.

You may not have to do this though, every car would be different I imagine.

 

LOL I was thinking your new toy was a wave runner or something. I was going to say, "Good luck pulling them out of the water with our masses of torque" but oh well. LOL first thing that comes to mind when I read this:

I have one sitting in my garage. It was great when I towed a u-haul trailer from MN to DC (1300 miles). If you have a manual, fourth gear should be the highest gear to use.

But I don't think it is practical to buy a truck just to tow things. I have a 4 wheeler as well and have always wanted to tow it places. I heard of hidden hitch as well and would recommend them. BTW congrats on the purchase, they are a blast!
