I just replaced my thermostat because the car was not warming up. It was stuck open. Now it seems my car overheats. Why would it do this? Thanks for any help.

 

Just curious but did you use the same 'lb' radiator cap as stock?

 

You can check the thermostat you just put in. I think the haynes manual has a proceedure. Basically heat it in water to see if it opens up.

 

Air in the cooling system... you need to purge the air out of the cooling system.

Yes, stock cap.

 

Take of the radiator cap, just start the car, let it heat up (i.e. thermostat opens), then shut it down, let it cool down... then top of the radiator and reservoir. Do this a few times... if you want to get creative, you can squeeze the lower radiator hose to purge bubbles while the cap is off - be careful of the fans and belts while the car is running.

 

How long do you let it heat up and cool down for?

 

10 mins for heating, 20 mins of cooling should be enough.. basically you should notice the radiator coolant level get lower - top it off, and repeat the process... keep going until the coolant in the radiator doesn't drop after the car cools down.

I tried that and it still overheats. I replaced my radiator but no luck. Still overheating. Could it be anything else?

prolly air since he has no clue how to bleed the system so he prolyl didnt do it....u can jsut let it run with the cap off for a while...then when it reaches operasting temp turn the heat on to make sure ur getting heat....u will prolly see the coolant gargle or burp while the car is running...usually that gets all the air out

 

let it run till it bubbles over, its the ghetto way but it works
