Automatic Transmission Flush (2002 3.5)... Do I have enough fluid in there?
Automatic Transmission Flush (2002 3.5)... Do I have enough fluid in there?
I flushed my 2k2 3.5L automatic transmission today using method in the How-Tos (drained 4qts from the pan, then drained 2qts at a time from the hose that was plugged into the radiator)
According to the owners manual, I can check the fluid in the cold range when I get the car to operating temperature, shift it through all the gears, and then check while idling. When I do this, I only see a hint of fluid on the edges of the stick.
When I let the car cool down and check the fluid when the car is off, the fluid is within the cold range.
Because no fluid is appearing when the engine is at temperature and idling, I'm pretty sure I need to add more fluid because it's not really showing up on the dip stick.... am I right?

Yep, keep on adding and checking your fluid. Same thing happened to me when I did mine and I actually had to go back to the store to buy another liter of fluid. Just make sure you take your time and add slowly, drive a bit, add some more and repeat this step until your up to the full line. Good luck.
