Home Made Rear Sway Bar Project - Need Ideas

My cousin and I are trying to fit a 3rd Gen RSB on a 4th Gen and 5th Gen. I pulled the RSb from a 93 Maxima today and cut off the end links. It is very close to fitting but its a couple inches too long. In order to fit on the inside of the rear axle trailing links the way the aftermarket RSB seem to mount, it will need to be about 2.5 inches shorter.

I'm considering a couple options: 1) mount it underneath the RATLs so that the ends can extend beyond the RATLS; or 2) have 2.5 inches cut out of the center of the RSB and welded back together. If it is cut then we may cut it to the right length to fit snugly on the inside of the RATL and just have it welded in.

Anybody have any helpful thoughts?

DON'T CUT IT. Once you do, you have compromised the structural integrity of the RSB. It will either break or not do you any good performance wise. why go through all that trouble?

bending it would be a great idea. Also bend it at the corner for more strength at those location. Just an idea.

You could weld extensions on the arms that angle in

throw that tiny pencil d!ck sway bar in the trash and buy one that's made for the car.

assuming you work for minimum wage, you could work the hours to pay for a Progress RSB in less time and money than it would take you to make the 3 gen RSB work on your car.

Don't be a cheap azz, and go buy a sway bar that is made for the 4th gen. That 3rd gen bar is not the right stiffnes, because they have IRS, instead of the new and improved beam axle.

OK, thanks. I won't cut it. I will try bending it. It shouldn't take much bending to get it to fit.

no....his is talking about a rear sway bar not a rear strut bar. The rear sway bar on CE is far more expensive like 140.

I hope you got a good way to bend it. Remember these are ment to stop the weight of the car from swaying.

True - The 3rd Gen RSB is smaller. I don't know how thick it needs to be in order to be effective.

If it doesn't work then there is no real loss, except for a little time and a little trouble. If I really wanted to save trouble then I'd just buy an aftermarket bar online, take it to the local garage and pay someone to put it on for me. I don't want to rely on off the shelf parts too much without using some imagination. and at least trying something different.

Anybody have a good picture of their aftermarket bar attached to their 4th or 5th Gen? If so then please post it.

Thanks
