Underdrive Pulley vs. B-Pipe
Underdrive Pulley vs. B-Pipe
Hey Everyone-
I am looking to either get the Unorthodox Underdrive Pulley or a B-Pipe. Which of the two will make a bigger difference in acceleration? I have the Y-Pipe and air intake. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sadly, neither will probably make a noticeable difference. If anything, I would probably recommend a b-pipe over the UDP, for the sake of being a bit easier to install (especially if you have an automatic). Also, there have been a lot of disagreements over whether the UDP makes any difference at all.
I used to have a UDP, I didn't notice much of a difference so I sold it. I have a Greddy SP2 catback, I didn't notice much of a performance difference but it sounds nice and my stocker was rusted out.

I understand what Business810 is saying about perceptual difference, but I dont think a dyno or race track would concur with his observation.
I recently took the chance and purchased a stock diameter lightened crank pulley that weighs in at 1.5 lbs.
My question is concerning the difference between a stock diameter UDP versus a smaller diameter UDP. I hear it is bad to underdrive your accessories and may contribute to reduced longevity. However, companies like Unorthodox Racing and Motostorm claim that some HP is actually freed up by the underdriving, but also state that 80% of gains are from weight reduction, which is probably actually 99%, no?

I never tracked the car with the UDP, and I've never dynoed, so I can't say from my direct experience. However, from research I've done here on the .org, I have yet to see any dyno plot or timeslip that shows a significant difference. Someone could always prove me wrong though, it happens frequently.
I agree with you that in theory it should improve performance, and it probably does, but probably to a degree that's so small it won't even show up in a 1/4 mile time.

B-Pipe>>>UDP....If your getting a B-pipe You might as well saving yourself time, shipping costs, and installation costs and get a full cat-back system of your personal preference...I would recommend the Greddy SP2...Good Luck

b-pipe From the look of those dyno graphs there was a good gain from the b-pipe not as agreat as the y-pipe but still there.

LOL! Well i have a UR UDP sitting here and I cant get the damn pulley bolt off........even w/imapct gun...........
And my Apexi WX catback too me like 35 mins to install............and well worth it.

The gains are something like 4whp for the pulley and 7whp for the B-pipe. Motorstorm Pulley can be had for 90$, much cheaper than the Catback, so I would go with that for the dought/performance ratio.
Go with B-pipe, if i were to do or buy udp again i wouldnt even do it at all or even consider it, its not worth it in my opinion. u can save the money of it to later buy a 00vi =) best mod for our car after y-pipe.
we did three pullys in one day and in all of them trying to beat the previous time. the best we did was 40min. we loosen the bolt with a torque rench with extension. you put socket on bolt and have the end of the wrench sit on the floor. you go in the car and give it a quick crank. and walla!

if you're a 5spd, i don't think the udp is a bad idea. especially if you can find one in the FS section for less than $100. i guess if you have more money to spend you can get the bpipe or catback.
