Limp home mode

does it exist in a 2k se? What is it? how is it engaged? how do you get out of it? I'm just curious, nothings happened I just read about it and want to know more.

lol, i thought it was just on saturns when their engines rev past 6,000 prms (waaaaaay too high) and then their engines turn on a safe mode to get you home, because you obviously dont know how to drive.


and yes, the maxima one lets you drive home with 3 tires.

Ecu automatically does it. You will not be able to rev above 2700rpms.

Happened to me before.

Not sure about the Maxima, but it is usually related to the automatic trans where it goes back to second gear when there is a measurable difference between the input speed sensor and output speed sensor. Sometimes turning off the ignition and then back on will reset it, until it senses the problem again, or the negative terminal on the battery has to be disconnected for at least 30 seconds. This problem can occur if the trans computer detects slippage in the transmission or if there is intermittent electrical flow thru the various connections.

there were threads where it happened to various people (mainly 4th gens that I read about). The were spooked, but the car sat over night and was back to normal the next morning.
