i'm on my drive home from work when a pimped out solara pulls up next to me at the line. he's checking out something on the front of my car (probably a chip) and i'm drooling over his rims. we make eye contact and give each other a little nod. we just kinda cruise to the next red light without any bother.
then he motions toward the straighaway after this light. i actually had to turn a couple blocks down but i give a nod anyway.
i'm power braking my sweet auto and i'm ready in 1 with od off. the light goes green and i actually keep up with him for a while. i shift to 2 but by now he's pulling away slowly and i'm deaf in my left ear from his exhaust.
then i hear some very interesting noise from his car and i just fly by him. i'm slowing down and checking out my rear view mirror to see him basically at a standstill in the middle of the road.
don't know what happened. can you miss a shift like that? what happened to his car????
anyway, it's not really a kill but it was certainly educational
glad it's not me.

when i went to Las Vegas for the SCCA SOLO open track event, there was the eibach project solara.
basically the car's TRD supercharged and the Eibach's prototyping the suspension on the car.
the specs were 240hps...i think...but the car did not feel that much faster than my max...i know the SCed solara is faster than mine for sure, but i was a little disappointed in the car...it just did not accelerated hard enough for me to feel the SC...

the trd solara is about as fast as a stock 5 speed maxima according to r&t.

sweet

my friend has a 2000 solara and its not that fast, i beat him most of the time, but if this solara is beating you pretty bad its probably a TRD, if it has a body kit, and badging, and the TRD exhaust, then you were lucky, with a few mods you can hang with the SCed solara.

I guess he had a stick. Maybe his 2-3 upshift turned into an accidental 2-1 downshift at close to redline in 2nd if he hit a bump, or if he just sucks That would definitely create some funny noises from exploding valvetrain, and would most definitely leave him stopped in the middle of the road

That's what I like about auto's. They might not run as fast, but you can run them consistently, and there's never any danger of mis-shifts. And they're better for heavy traffic, too

That definitely counts as a kill in my book, though. Part of driving a stick is knowing how to use it and drive it to its full potential.

Err, if you were asking me, I only have an Accord V6. But I might be getting a 2k2 Max 6spd if I can convince my stb-fiance to take my Accord, since she'll need a car in about a year

Like irvine78 said, it's a close race stock Max/auto vs. Accord V6 (auto only). But if the Max/automagic driver power shifts (because the auto tranny short shifts at 6k instead of redline for you guys) then the Maxima will have a definite edge on an Accord V6.

A stick Maxima, driven properly, will blow even a heavily modded Accord V6 right out of the water. You guys can hit high-14's stock, but it takes just about every performance mod there is on an Accord V6 just to get it to the low-15's. We have one guy that hit like a 14.95 ET NA and without funny gas.
