feedback on brake upgrade idea

How many here would be interested in a bigger brake system/kit, and what are you will to pay, or what do ya'll think would be a good price? No free is not an option, something realistic. I'm aiming this at 5.5 gen as I see there seems to be a few systems out for the 5th gen already, but can't sem to find much of anything for the 5.5

Just to give you an idea so you can better judge. Specs. would be 13'' rotor, dual piston cal. The rotor will fit under stock 17" rims, and the cal. The setup I have in mind would be off another car, so parts would be easy to find, and cheap to replace later down the road.

This may or may not have been tried but, it would be from a corvette. I have an extra set laying around from my car and thought about trying to adapt these to my max. These brakes work really well at bringing my vette (3200LBS) to a stop, and I feel they wold have no issue with bringing a max to a stop. You can buy parts for these things cheap. Just toying around with the idea of making some kits, if...

1: possible
2:cost effective

Vette's only have a 2 piston caliper?

I wonder if it clears the hub. What about the brake line?

That's the thing I’ve not even gotten a chance to look things over, I was just out in my shop last night and saw the cals. sitting there and was like HMMMM what if Being that the max. is front wheel drive it could be a major issue, the master cly. as well. The brake lines I'm not as worried about. GM uses metric, and finding, or making something to adapt the threads would be little issue. I could make something on my lathe if I had to.

I'm just seeing if there is a market first. And what the market would be willing to pay. I will most likely make my own kit, but figured that if there was a market for the system, and I could make it at a price that would sell. Why not? But when you make something like this for yourself it's a one thing and you don't worry about cost, and alot of other things that you would if looking to market the item. Wouldn't want to spend tons of money on R&D only to find out you have out priced yourself, or there is no market.

IMO, the market is saturated

1. 300zx rotor (grinded down) with 300zx caliper
2. 3000GT VR4 rotor with 300zx caliper
3. 2004+ maxima rotor with 300zx caliper
4. 2004+ maxima rotor with stock caliper
5. Cobra rotors with 300zx caliper
6. Brembo Brake system
7. Stillen AP Racing brake system
8. SSBC brake system
9. Precision brake system (?)
10. J30 calipers with _____ rotor (?)

You have to take a chance really. As I have and Matt has. What people say and what people actually do are two different things. I built my own with the thought of selling parts for others. So far people have responded. Yes I did ask before going though with it. But I figured I had a market anyway. Especially for the prices I was offering the parts for.

5.5 gen. Still uses the 11.x rotors and single piston calipers? Just like the 5.0 gen? If that is the case, my bbk brackets/rings + 13" Cobra rotors/300z 4 piston caliper should work.

Or just bolt on a set of 6th gen calipers/rotors for a mild upgrade.

Larrio,

Thanks. Please correct me as I am know to the max world.

I've seen a number of the combos you listed, but it appears they are all made to fit 00-01 maxima's? I can't say I've seen anything really saying 02-03, but then again I may have over looked?

Yes corvette's only have two pist. cals. But they work really well.

Pretty much anything that works on 00-01 will work on 02-03.

I believe #4 in Larrio's list is the only exception. It's 00-01 only (if you're referring to Matt Blehm's stock caliper relocation kit with 2k4 rotors).

Thanks for the imput, and the info. They only thing I'm not crazy about on the 04 rotors, and 300ZX combo is I have to buy new rims? That's a bit of a turn off on the idea for me, but each his own. I will have to think this thing through a lot more I guess. I have more time than money.

Why do you chose to use a floating caliper over fixed?
How thick will your bracket be?
Do the lug bolt patterns on the rotor hat match the factory 114.3x5?
Integral or two peice rotors? Curved or straight vanes?
Will you use splash shields?
Have you done the math for the force/movement of the master cylinder and calipers?
How will it effect pedal pressure and travel?

Asking for pricing does not instill much confidence
