I hate to do this...but.....Need Help!

Seafoam. The dreaded word around here.

I looked up all the threads about it, read the how-to's and faqs. Searched for the better part of two days, and still couldnt find an answer to my question. It's possible I missed it, but I highly doubt it.

I posted a reply/question in the F & L section a few days ago, but no one has repsonded - and it is an issue I would like to get resolved as it concerns me alot.

Here is my reply to the thread in F & L.

Car sputtered like it wanted to stall so I gave it gas until it stabalized. Had a rough idle for a bit, took it for a ride then was fine. It *seems* better, but it could be all mental.

My car is an '03 with 86k on it. I can't believe it didn't smoke at all. I guess that means that all the smoke isn't the sea foam just burning off. I was expecting this grand showing of smoke, but didn't get anything.

Should I be worried that nothing came out from an engine that high in mileage? I mean my engine can't be that clean, can it? I have been using synthetic high mileage oil for over a year now, that might be why it's clean.
I used this hose that someone posted in another thread.

I wouldn't post about this topic if I didn't really search and try myself. I am concerned either I did something wrong, or something could be wrong with my car. Any idea? I apologize for bringing up this topic, as it has been beat to death. I just hope you guys can see my concern. Hopefully I am not just an idiot, but hey, I'm human.

Thanks again.

was the car up to operating temps before you put the seafoam in?

Yes it was. I had just gotten home from work (20 minute drive)

It should have been up to operating temperatures. Is that not long enough?

If you just took it for a regular drive, you probably wouldnt see the smoke. You need to give the car hell to really get the full effect. You do not have to drive it, just throw it in Neutral and get it up to 5000-6000RPMs, and just keep it there until the smoke goes away. If you suck in about 1/3rd a pint and really give it hell, you should see the smoke.

You may not have seen it if you just took it for a regular drive, the stuff was coming out, but not in such high quantities for you to notice it.

Also, make sure your letting the liquid flow into the suction of the vacuum hose(Seafoam needs to flow to the left).

If you did it correctly, and did not see the smoke... just don't worry about it, there is no way its just sitting in you car messing things up right now. It came out, you just didnt see it.

When the car was acting like it wanted to stall I got on it pretty good, up into the 5-6k range. I guess I was just used to seeing all the smoke from everyone elses cars and was worried something was wrong.

Thanks for the reassurance, maybe I will give it another go in a week or two and see what happens.

driving a few miles should have gotten it warm enough. the time i used it, i ran the car for about 10 minutes and came back. i used it and let it sit for around the same amount of time. mine was smoking a good amount but it did take a little bit of revving to keep the engine awake at first. after the smoke went away, i changed the oil.

You have to let the car sit for 20-30 minutes after you suck it up. Sitting i mean with the car off. As soon as you are done with how ever much you are putting in turn the car off. and yes it works better at operating temp.

you wont see clouds of smoke unless u really rev it up, not just high rpm's - I'm talkin floor it (in idle) to high rpm's, then do it a couple more times. after the 3-4th time u do that u should see some smoke. Its weird doing it the first time and not having smoke, it should be dirty but u gotta "UMPH" it out, get fast vaccum moving air through the engine.

do you often use fuel injector cleaners, or have you used one recently before using seafoam. I use FI cleaners somewhere in the vicinity of every 3000 miles and barely got any smoke even with hard revs. My brother , who never buys the stuff used it the same day and got thick smoke for a good 15 minutes

Ha, I did the exact same thing yesturday with my 2000 with same results. Same brake vaccum hose, engine was warm, let it sit for half an hour... but no real smoke. Not too worried about it, drove another 30mi or so and havent seen any lights go on or anything to worry about *knock on wood* so don't lose sleep over it.

we've done several maximas in this area with Seafoam, and some smoked alot, some a little, some hardly at all. Not sure why, but seems like it's not a problem.

If you're too worried about the car the only thing you can do now is just monitor it and see how it runs. Just check for regular stuff, like your gas milage, oil consumption etc. and see if it's any different. If not, I wouldn't be too worried.

the smoke will vary form car to car. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REV your car to 6k rpm's ... you want to get rid of all the crap inside your intake.. you don't want a new car. It is fine if it didn't smoke. Try it again in a few weeks..... good luck.
