95-99 (DE) Block vs. 00-01 (DE-K) Block
I know the 2000-2001 internals are lighter, but what about the physical block? Is a 95 block the same as a '01 block?
Does anyone have an article or some kind of document about it? I just want to know if the physical blocks (minus internals) are identical.

But i have read in a nissan technical paper that says the only change in the bottom end is subdividing the grade of the main bearings for less noise and vibration.
I know that the DEK engines have two thermostats. One is for the pistons and the other is for the cylinder heads. In that Nissan paper they mention it helps improve fuel economy. The hole for the secondary thermostat hose is located in the valley of the engine right next to the knock sensor, so to answer the question the blocks are different.
Also cams are slightly different on the DEKs, but DE and DEK cylinder heads have the same part #.

I'm asking because I still have my old 95 block laying around and the guy that wants to buy it from me has an S13 with a destroked DE-K block (now a VQ25 that revs like 9000) and he just wants a back up block.
Since he is destroked and is running different internals I assume that means it won't make a difference for him?

IIRC on the VQ35s that square chamber is there but not used. On the DEKs that hole goes right into the water jacket.
Also He doesn't have to use the dual thermostat stuff. He can cap it off on the DEK if he hasn't already and not worry about it on the DE. From what I've read it has some worth so I decided to keep it on my DEK engine swap.

I'll ask him. What I know so far:
- 350z Heads, injectors, intake/plenum, face and oil pans.
- New gaskets, oversized rings, bolts, bearings, porting, shaving and honing.
- Grand am Race Cams & Valve Spring set.
Some early pictures (From March I think):

WTF? You can see the swirl valve actuators.
