BBK/Suspension Install **56k no way**

So here are some pics of my install last night...I had a few small issues but mostly because I was tired and I was just not paying attention. But I will take a few more of the brackets and the bbk install. I also installed some ES endlink's with the whole thing. I did want to rant about something, I ended up using 30mm 300zx iron calipers instead of my nice alluminum powdercoated ones, beacue when installed the SS break lines I over tightened the line and stripped out the treads in the caliper...so note to anyone that does this to becareful of this because the stainless steel is a very hard metal and the alluminum is very soft. So now I have to send mine back to be rebuilt and powder coated again....another month wait

so here are some pics. and I will take some more today during the day of the drop which is very nice and even with the s-techs. I really like the ride of them too. Firm but not annoying, and very comfortable but they handle very nice.

these are some before shots of the wheels and brakes, just trying to show the diff with 20mm spacers in the front, I didnt do the spacers in the rear yet, got to get longer studs.

comparison shots of the alluminum 300zx vs iron 300zx. The weight is a little heavy but not more than stock I think.

iron ones first.

now the alluminum

now the comparison....

I know it looks close but there are no rubbing issues like I thought and it looks awsome....I just need to kick the back out now to make it even.

ahhhh that bbk fills it out nice and looks clean too..

Awesome Man everything looks greta but looks like it must have set you back a pretty penny. Notice any loss in performance. Acceleration perhaps?

nope not yet at least I only drove a mile home and then the 4.2 miles to work so not really. I do have some curious noises coming from the front struts but I think some stuff was not tightned enough but I will address that this afternoon when I go back to the shop, I was there last night working until 1:30am talk about a long day. And yeah every thing did set me back a few bucks, you can check this thread out to see all about the pricing and everything.

hey man, long time no see!

Glad to see your car's turning out well, buying your old car was the start of my maxima modding experience. I'm putting in a 3.5 in a week and a half, hoping to run low 13s by the end of the summer all motor.

Car's looking awesome, i'm gonna try the BBK when i get some more money, i'll hit you up if I have any questions.

Thanks,
-Freddy

Yeah I know, we have very similar setups, same wheels and brakes only thing is yours is a 97-99 and I have a 96. but that is funny, do you remember me asking about the spacers, well they turned out really nice...thanks.

oh and here are a few more pics I took of the drop and setup this afternoon when I went home to let my dogs out, oh and I have to say......THIS BBK RULES...that crap stops so hard and fast...its awsome.

good side shot to show the drop and how even it is, and the ride hight is not much higer than my coilovers but much more comforatable and streetable.

I love my new brakes...

new rear rotors

I think this one gives you a really good idea of how far the wheels are pushed out, but I think it looks really aggressive!

Here you can see the diff between the back (stock spacing) and the front with 20mm spacer...very nice! now I just need to get the new studs for the back so I can put in my 12mm spacer. I ordered the wrong damn NISMO studs, 65$ down the drain...

yeah I already do, it was amazing how well they grab from 60-70 down to 15, and they stop so good that my tires skipped and squealed a little bit when I really got on them.

so so far no difference in performance. the unsprung wieght difference in so minimal if not I may have broken even...so really no diff just great stopping power thats it.

What do you mean by brake track? I think if you are talking about pad contact, I am not exactly sure about matt;s bracket install, I tried several configs and the one I ended up with was the only way that seemed to work. the bracket actually its on the back side of the factory mount (twords the middle of the car and then the spacer part of it goes tword the outside of the car I think its right cause it seems to work but if anyone has anymore info or pics of how it is supposed to be installed please help, oh and if matt reads this please mark your brackets with a L (left) and R (right) or P (passenger) and D (Driver) so we know which side they go on.

yeah so far no problems, but I would guess under really hard conering like autocross that might be a problem. But I will address that issue when it comes up, but for now I will keep it as is. I might roll the fenders too, I thought about that a few times.

Looks good. Question: Is it just me or does it look like that caliper isn't touching a lot of rotor?

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. Maybe it doesn't matter thought since you get more torque being farther from the axis i.e. brake pad contact at a shorter distance from the axis isn't too important in this case? Sure could cause a funny-looking wear pattern down the road lol.

You can get rebuilt 300ZX calipers from rockauto.com for around 200 bux.

so here is the question Jeff do you think I put them on correctly. Or do you think I have the mounts on wrong, I know this is not your kit so you can not exactly know about this kit but I thought you would have a better idea than me??

I can't say. But I imagine if you installed anything incorrectly or backwards, none of the parts would mount correct.

Actually, even your stock rotors aren't 100% swept. These rotors look like this because they are new. If you cleaned up your stock rotors, it too will have areas that aren't swept. It's because the areas that don't get swept all the time get rusty.

The important think to remember is that 99.5% of the 300z's pad is sweeping the rotor.

actually with matts kit there are 2 ways they mount and everythign will line up...they are supposed to be up closer to where the stocks mount...but depending how u put the brackets on they could be low....these are mine
