How do I remove the axle seal from the housing? I need to replace the seal b/c it is leaking tranny oil. Is their any tools that is used to remove this? I can't get this thing out.

check the Haynes manual, supposedly has a good write up on it.

Also, did you check your axle for movement? It can move in and out (pulling and pushing), but if it moves up/down left/right then you most likely have bearing damage, and simply replacing the seal will not fix your problem. It will help for a short time (1 month or so), and then it will be leaking again. Only true fix is proper rebuild of the tranny with properly shimmed bearings.

Granted, if you have an automatic, this problem doesn't apply to you.

Also, when you put the new seal in, don't push it in to far, as there is nothing there to prevent it from going in too far.

its not THAT bad.... just make sure that you dont scratch the mating surface.. i used a crow bar to get it out....

 

i hope its just the seal. :-\
