Im looking to change my stock exhaust. Ive look at the Greddy, Apexi, and HKS mufflers. The rear bumper on the 2000+ does not seem to fit any of them. I want it to look close to stock but with more power. Can anyone give me more info on this?

 

Why not just go with a cattman y pipe, b pipe, and a dynomax turbo muffler with the tip of your choice.

 

Thx for suggesting the above setup. I already have the stillen y-pipe and rt hi-flo cat. I have search through posts for the past year and came up with the cattman catback exhaust is good for my car but someone claimed that it was too noisy.

 

It is noisy. Thats why I just have the b pipe section of the catback with a dynomax turbo muffler which is MUCH more quiet.

 

What about the frankencar catback exhaust? The price is much better than cattman but i dont know about the sound.

 

It all depends on the structure of the muffler. If the Frankencar muffler is a straight through glass pack style, it is going to be loud... period. If it has baffles in it like the dynomax and the oem muffler, it is going to sound very reasonable. My current set up sounds slightly louder than stock... just enough to let others know that I am not running a stock exhaust set up. It is a very fitting sound for a sporty luxury sedan like the I30... no fartng down the road like a civic.

Frankencar is chambered, but almost impossible to get one. The EVO2 drones on the highway, as well as the HKS.

Nope. Imagine the exhaust tone of a G35/350Z and you'll get the idea. Sounds powerful yet classy at the same time.

 

i30ds, I tried looking up the Dynomax turbo muffler for my 2k2 I35 but could not find any place selling it... Dynomax's product sheet offers no help as well. Where did you get the muffler? Re-producing the tone of a G35/350Z is something I always wanted.

 

they prob dont make one for your exact setup, just get the measurements and buy a universial one

 

I had a small local muffler shop do it for me for about $150. They sourced the muffler and a tip that I picked out.

Since it is not a direct fit bolt on muffler, they had to bend and shape the in let and out let pipes and then weld those and some hangers on to the muffler and then weld a tip on the end. This is not something that you can just buy and then bolt up yourself like with a Cattman or a Greddy set up, but it sounds 10x better.

So, my advice is to find a good muffler shop that can source dynomax products and let them do the work. They will take care of the rest.

 

I have the same setup and used the same shop. Turbomax sounds good. Aggresive but not ricey nor does it drone. Just make sure the shop that installs it gets the right amount of bend around the rear multilink setup. The inlet pipe to the muffler that attaches to the b pipe, must have enough clearance above the multilink or it will BANG on the multlink when going over bumps and etc....

 

Why is it impossible to get the Frankencar exhaust? Are they out of business or no longer makes them? I will start searching for a good muffler shop around Seattle.
