Re-key lock....HOW

When I did my brown cloth to black leather interior swap, I got a different glove box. Well now I'm going to install my PS2 and want to lock the glove box but cant. Does anyone know how to re-key it.

to re-key a lock, you need a lot of little pieces of different lengths called tumblers that will match the notches in your key. it would be much easier to separate the 2 halves of the glove box door and swap the lock assembly from your original interior.

Very easy, 2 screws easy, but as I stated above brown to black conversion.

I'd also like to replace my glove box lock.

I bought my 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE (brown interior) used and never received a valet key. I'd like to start locking my iPod, stereo front, etc. in the glove box when I valet park. My local dealership says that all they can do is give me a copy of my master key but that doesn't help because it will unlock everything. They don't seem to be able to help with a valet key.

It seems easy enough to take out the lock of the glove box and swap it out. Would anyone here happen to have a part and key that would do the job?

Just throw a lock from the dollar store on the hole glove box. The glove box wont run away, and nobody can try to steal it, lol!!!

Well, what happened to the other glove box key ?? Try to get that key that came with the glove box, if it came with a key. Best luck is, you can just get a car shop to try and instal a new one ,or get a locksmith to make a new key.

take the glove box lock out and in to a lock smith and have them make a key that will fit it. whatever key they should only work the door/glovebox.

WOW, back from the dead. But if I remember the solution I just used a flat head screw driver put into the key slot(in front), hit it on the ground(screwdriver handle) lock popped out and replaced with old lock(using same technique)

PS... also remember having to lift some plastic piece from lock to do it. But still very very simple.

Oh and snowboi a thief will get into the glovebox locked or not. Had my ps2 stolen like that. Would suggest hiding it elsewhere. look around there are numerous voids on the max to hid things in.
