Quietest Full CatBack for 96 Max?

What is the quietest Full Catback for a 96 Maxima?

I had my share of noise in the SC s2000, droning and the loudness made it a pain to drive on longer commutes as it was a DD.

I want a catback for the Maxima, not worried about gaining much 1-2HP, but I want no droning and a tone which is a little louder than stock. basically the quietest exhaust?

I hear Apexi WS is quiet but than from reading lots of threads there is a noise range from 2000-2500? which is about crusing RPMs.....

Cattman is louder than the WS2. As far as droning... I have a Cattman with budget y-pipe and the y-pipe get kinda loud at 2200-2500rpm. It quiets down when it breaks in but still Cattman is much louder than the Apexi WS2 and sounds MUCH better too.

thanks 97. So looks like WS2

Can any WS2 owners talk about their exhaust and the loudness it has during normal everyday driving at different RPMs? Any droning, booming etc.

For my s2000 we had two very quiet exhausts, the Comptech and Fujitsobo which were realitvely like stock and just a little louder with no droning. Looking for somethign quiet liek that.

how about a b pipe and then the 5th gen muffler. i've heard the apex'i ws sounds similar to the obx type-h, but i can tell you personally that the obx type-h catback is not quiet.

Thanks AZN! but just looking for a simple direct bolt on catback and I like the look of an aftermarket exhaust.

There has to be at least one quiet aftermarket exhaust for the maxima right?

I have the SP2 in my 96. sounds great under acceleration but cruising at above 3.5k rpms is very nice. drone goes away. it's there if you listen for it, but i hardly notice it now.

This guy took the words out of my mouth.. The Cattman, both of them I've head have a really low tone to them and they drone (not bad at all, good tone) depending on gear and throttle until a little below 3k and then it disappears.

The problem with the WS2 is that the canister is relatively smaller and therefore the tone isn't as deep, but then again from what I've heard and seen it does drone just not at the same frequency.

So, in the end I believe the Cattman to be superior, sound wise.. Though both are great, the WS2 being considerably cheaper and a little quieter.

besides the custom setup, is there any manufactured exhaust for the Maxima that is quieter than the Apexi and Cattman and doesn't drone?

I have a Cattman + Budget Y. The Cattman has a nice deep tone bit it is kind of loud, especially at WOT. It does drone some and it doesn't go away with time, you just tend to get used to it. I added a Technosquare ECU and the drone got immediately better quite a bit to where it's barely noticeable. Still has the low tone but only under hard acceleration.

if i were you i'd go with a performance y-pipe, B-pipe, and stock axle back. you can even get a nice muffler tip put on to clean up the look. It will also be a bit more agrressive sounding than stock but not much. best of all, no drone.

I dont get it; you dont care about gaining HP and you dont want an exhaust that is louder than stock...why not just stick with stock?

yeh I was really tempted to do Y Pipe same time as full catback.

That idea above sounds good jsut a Y Pipe and stock muffler but I still want that catback instead of a muffler and Bpipe but options don't sound to good............If its a lil louder than stock its ok as long as its not droning and way loud booming when you step on it.

So no other options besides Apexi or Cattman? I already know greddy is pretty loud. I'm just luving this nice compfy SE leather and no droning sound after coming from the s2000 a few weeks ago

Nice!!! Mine sounds just like that but yours seems a tiny bit quieter that mine. Do you have just the muffler or the whole catback? I love how the exhaust remains deep all the way to redline.

Thanks, and yeah I'm running the stock B-pipe currently.. With the Cattman B and Y it's quite a bit louder.

After reviewing countless threads looks like APEXI WS2 is the quietest.

http://maxmods.dyndns.org/ also per this.

Thanks all for the adivce in the thread.

Yeh can't wait

I'll probably buy it from the group buy, I think lowest cost was $440 shipped.

yea magnaflow is quiet???? since when its straight through flow.... its LOUD AS FAWK.. and it drones like no other...

this is what u need to do... Dont have anybody make u an exhaust because it will be garbage and it will rust after 2 years and ur gonna have to replace it again..

if u want it quiet get a stock muffler.. the resonator gets rid of the buzzing when u let off the gas at high rpm in nuetral... it does not get rid of drone.. what i would do if i were u is get a 5th gen muffler with a catman or budget rear section and ull be set....

A rear-section is the the muffler/ axleback.. That's what BCC told me.
