Trunk not opening

Hey everyone,

I have a 96 I30t. For the past three weeks, I thought my trunk was frozen shut, but now that's its thawed up, my trunk lid still is not opening.

I hear the actuator working, and it sounds like the trunk should open, but it's not. I looked at the 4th gen FAQ's and found the trunk lid section. I looked through my pass through in the back seat, but I cannot find a valet switch on the trunk lid. Is there a 4th gen I30 owner who could possibly help me out by opening their trunk and taking pics of the area on the inside around the lock assembly?

If you can point out where the valet switch is as well (if it exists on our cars) I would greatly appreciate it. As of right now, I have no idea. Oh my key doesn't open the trunk either.

Thanks,
Renman

This for sure happened to me. I didn't know what to do. (I have 2 12"s in the trunk) So I had to take out my back seat with the metal plate. Crawl around my subs and basically take off the latch. Took about 20 minutes but after that I regreased it with some white lithium grease and hasn't happened since.

Open it up with the key, and then move the valet switch off.

He can't open with a key either, so it may be something other than the valet switch. If it was frozen for that long, maybe it just needs some force to pop it open.

Unless you are Houdini, you're not crawling through that small hole.

Nice ninja edit

I had this happen once. I had to get my lock drilled out and have a new one installed. It still won't open with the button, key only.

Damn!! I thought for sure I could get it by undetected.

Yeah I've got my sub in there as well. I can see the latch moving, but I guess it's not moving enough, and I may have to adjust the striker plate.

And no, I'm not Houdini, I'm not fitting through that hole!

Hahah I'll try using all my muscle, but I doubt it will work. To bad I missed the ninja edit, I'm curious what was written before.

Thanks for the help chaps, I appreciate it. I'll probably try removing the back seat this weekend.

This happened to me, and it ended up being the actuator not being tight enough, so i bought a used one from the org..

Update: It was warm enough today that in the evening, I went out and tore into it. I took out the seats (easy enough, done it plenty of time for audio wiring) and slid myself into the trunk. After flipping a little switch on the trunk lid, I was able to open it.

It turns out that the latch (near the actuator) needed to be greased up. It would move, but not return. I greased up everything there (except myself )with some white lithium grease, adjusted the striker, and bam! It's good to go.

Thanks for all your input everyone.

Now it works with the remote and the key.
