Changing master/slave...words of wisdom??

First off...this is my first thread!! Wooo!!
Ok so. Yesterday I went to drive and the car wouldnt go into gear. I released the clutch pedal and noticed is was all loose and very little resistance. I checked the clutch fluid resivoir and it was bone dry. Thats as far as I got. Tomorrow, I'm buying new master, slave, fluid and hoses. Then, on Sunday, Ill get in there and see if its leaking from a hose or an actual bad master or slave cylinder. Finally, I'll return the parts I end up not needing.
Before I do this, any words of wisdom? Tricks? Suggestions? Ive never done it but I'm armed with a Hanes manual.
Thanks!!!!!

Sounds like your on the right track with this, The master is a pain in the *** because there is absolutly no room to work in, I know you'll need a 10mm flare nut wrench to get the lines off there, If i recall i just bent the upper bleeder line out of the way when i changed mine, and then bent it back afterwards, and i remember taking off 2 nuts in the wheel well to move another component, I think the haynes manual covers that whole process. Just remember to prime it, and bleed the system, lower 1st then the upper. The slave isnt so bad, 2 bolts, shouldnt be to much of a problem. have fun!

Sweet! Thx, mang! Im sure it'll be fun because the weather is gonna be amazing on Sunday. Maybe even help with the albino look ive been trying to get rid of. I just hope it works out well cause after being spoiled by the max for the past few months, the dakota is this big lumbering, slow, gas guzzling, POS. lol
Imma get a 10mm flare, too. Ive been needing one time and time again. No more vice grips for every job for me! Yeah!
Anyone else want to throw in their .02 cents or jack this thread!? I had to add that cause people do that sh*t on here all the time. I go to read responses to a normal question or comment and start reading about all sorts of other thing that have nothing to do with the original topic..kinda like Im doing now but I'm allowed to cause its my thread. BAM.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!!

Is "throwing in two-hundredth of a cent" really an expression?

You need to get a set of flare-nut wrenches - you need a 12mm for bleeding the slave. But first figure out what is leaking. Add fluid and pump up the pedal to get some pressure in the lines. Look around for leaks. If its the lower hydraulic line to the slave - replace it, but first drain the fluid out. Replace it with new DOT 3 fluid always. Have a buddy step on clutch while you watch the slave. Look around the master. After replacing stuff, bleed properly - air rises, remember that. Upper bleeder is important. If you are not getting the pedal pressure - keep bleeding - there is air in the system. I had a problem with autozone master - wasnt pushing the right amount of fluid so i could never get it to feel right. Make sure your parts are good quality. good luck.

Factory rebuild kits from nissan are less than $10 a peice for the slave and master, and once you have them removed from the car, it is really quick and easy to rebuild them. Also, replacing the rubber line with a braided stainless one is actually cheaper, check the group-deal forum......

Oh, and you don't need a 12mm flare for bleeding, a regular closed end 12mm will work just fine.

AWESOME!!! love you guys...wise cracks and all. lol. I went to Autozone, Poopboys and the stealership. Nobody has the parts in stock. Tomorrow, Im just gonna find out what exactly is leaking and just order the one part. This SEEMS like an easy job. I usually like to save the bigstuff for the weekends but if I think itll be ok for an after work, repair session.
Thanks, again for all this info!!! You guys rock!!
Anybody else wanna add their .00000000000000002 cents? LMMFAO!!!

**Update**
I filled the resivior, bled the system and cleaned off all the hoses. Now I just wait. The leak isnt obvious so I couldnt detect anything right away. I'm checking it out after every drive. Maybe its just one of those weird things like the bleeder screw wasnt tight or something. We'll see.
Thanks, guys!!!

i had my slave cylinder go bad and let air in the lines. this caused my master to go bad. and all in all its about a 20 minute fix for all three, the hose and both cylinders and if a 10 dont work on the slave mine was an 11.

I had a slave go bad in a Jeep once,, I would have to bleed it every 3 or 4 weeks, never could find a leak, ( I was losing a little fluid), other than that it worked fine, that was a few years ago. My nephew bought it and it still has the problem, new slave and all,, weird

Funny. Is this a common problem on Maximas? I see a couple of threads on it right now and my car did the same thing after I bought it a couple of weeks ago (95 SE- dealer took care of it)

Well...looks like the hose leading to the slave is the culprit. None of the parts stores near me carry it the hoses. I guess its off for a trip to the stealership. =[
Still...Ill keep you guys posted until I resolve this issue.

While your in there, you might as well get rid of that spaghetti of clutch lines nissan thought was necessary. There is a group deal as stated before, but I just bought some brake lines and bent my own. $6 and its a lot simpler than the stock set up. And I didnt have to wait on the lines to get shipped!

I was reading some threads trying to find out if anyone had posted anything about the problem I'm having, a few months ago i had the lines changed on mine, the other day I'm driving and all of a sudden I hear this whining only when I'm shifting and my pedal "action" isn't the same and when I got it home popped the hood and some smoke appeared I took it to the shop today and they said it could be the throw out bearing anybody ever have this problem and how much did it cost to repair it.
