HID bulb keeps burning out

I replaced my HID bulb last week. I never touched the glass part and handled it carefully. It worked fine until last night. Why would HID bulbs keep burning out and has anyone else had any problems?

I don't know much about HID bulbs. Can someone explain why they take time before they start looking blue?? Is it ballast related or bulb related? So if you replace your bulbs do they go back to looking white?

Add to that, frequent switching on/off of HIDs can also reduce their lifespan. But I would suspect bad ballasts over all of them.

Does it have something to do with the condensation in your housing's?

When bulbs discolor, it's a bulb related issue. Replace the bulb and you're fine again.

That looks more like hazing of the outside lense due to UV exposure.

Deus, do you have consistent bulb failure on 1 side or both sides? If it's consistently one side, consider changing the ballasts from 1 side to the other and see if the problem follows the ballast.

Easier to switch the bulbs, if the same symptoms appear then I would consider switching the ballasts.

The driver's side bulb has gone out twice in the last week or so. The haze on my light is due to painting the inside 2 yrs ago and is unrelated to the HID failure.

Wow, 2 in one week. That's a lot of $$$$.
I can only imagine it being the wiring, or the ballast is messed up.

Could blacking out the inside of the headlight be causing temps to rise above acceptable levels?

He's blown many bulbs already, it's time to isolate the ballasts.

If you can remove your ballast from your headlamp, you can switch ballasts (they are identical) from side to side to see if the problem follows the ballasts. If so you know the issue is with the ballast. If not, the problem may be the wiring on that side of the headlamp - although that's unlikely.

Make sure you have your fogs available as alternates. Better to find out than waste $85 in bulbs in 7 days.

this may sound a bit messed up but take it into nissan and have them install the bulb. tell them what happened with the other bulbs burning out. they warrenty their work so if it happens again they will have to replace the bulb. a bit of insurance if you ask me. those things aren't cheap. better safe than sorry. good luck
