RoadKill- My Max vs. 2000 Mercedes CLK 430
This is fresh (just happened 20 minutes ago).
I was coming back from a friends house around 11:45. Hwy 290W out towards the beltway (Houston). I was on the phone talking to another friend as I was driving. I was stopped at a light before the on-ramp to the freeway. I had noticed earlier a new CLK 430 coupe (silver, my favorite, right Woodear?). I was going to mind my own business until he cut in front of me sort of agressive (thats the signal in Houston apparently). He started up the ramp, with me behind. He got on it pretty good, but I didn't let the gap get bigger. As soon as there was clean lanes, he hopped over 3 lanes and brought it up to 80 mph. I stay a steady 3 lengths behind him and in his blind-spot(just in case he starts to slow down or has to hit the brakes) until I know he's gonna hit it.
When the coast is clear, he starts to pull away, so I pull behind him and he brings it up to 130 mph. At that point I'm looking to see how far away the blue-lights are in the rear-view, but nothing but dust behind us. He drops to around 90 (His adrenaline is probably high). We continue for about a mile and he starts to get on the gas. Once I see him pulling, I change lanes and pull along side him, both of us pulling to 115. I still have my friend on the phone giving him the play-by-play, calling out increments of 5 mph.
We approach the Beltway where traffic clears a bit and roads are better. We both slow and he alows me to get in front of him (I guess he wants to make sure what he's running). He starts to pass again, and I just FLOOR it. I pull hard to almost 120, then the car goes into OD. He's about 3 lengths behind. I click the button and it goes back out of OD, and I pick it up to 130. I click into OD and it moves up about 5 more MPH. At this point the CLK is about 4-5 car lengths behind (but his lights look cool).
After that, he backed off even more and he kinda followed about 10 lengths behind until I found my exit. I really like those cars, and he hung pretty good (better than MOST domestics at high speeds). It was probably alot quieter ride for him than me, but I had him good and could have kept on if he would have been up for it.
BTW, I've just turned 102,000 miles. Hot plugs and no NOS for almost 3 months (just haven't been in the racing mood)

c'mon guys! don's first post on the new bbs! good kill man. and yours is auto too. you'll probably be hearing from me in a few months when i decide to get the vb mod. man, i was at the light next to a clk 430 amg earlier today. sweet looking car. i woulda raced it, but my friends were in my car, and i think that guy's grandmother was in his..
CLK430s aren't made by AMG- just MB.
Don, it sounded like fun. Those 4.3L engines are really torquey, so it would have been good to run him from a dead stop; he might have gotten you there. Also, be aware of Benzes with some mileage on them. They get more powerful (and faster) after engine break-in.

With some Barbus bodykit and 20", and some RENNtech mods, one can definitely travel in style in that thing.

The real AMG model never use the OEM numbering.
So far they have C36, C43, E55.
CLK55 and S55 are coming by the end of this year, then it's SL55.

nice car though
a CLK430 was in front of me and on my left this afternoon, wheels said AMG. It's definitely got a very nice shape, especially from the rear. I think it does a 6.1 stock as well. I know it's apples/oranges but I think it's better looking than the M3--looks more substantial, bigger than it really is.

It's the sports package for the CLK430 I think, you get the AMG wheels with some sort of body panels and interior cosmetics, that's it.

All CLK430s have the AMG sport package. It's the only MB model that has it as standard equipment. Oh, I think that the SLK320s will have it, too.
E430s run the 1/4 in 15.0 seconds, some faster. The CLK430 weighs 150lbs less with the same power, so they are pretty darn quick.

Sweet kill! That should have been a good video capture. Would work wonders on marketing
Btw, how about E-Class sedans? The 2k2 Max seems to have a better power/weight ratio than E430, albeit just a little.
I know the E55 AMG is a killer tho... saw one on Westheimer this afternoon zipping past rather heavy traffic. I wanted to give him a run but decided against it for two things:
1) It wasn't a safe thing to do (i hated this guys guts driving his AMG and zipping in and out of traffic, changing lanes without using signals)
2) I know i could never beat that guy. 349HP/391lb.ft!
Now if only there was a supercharger/turbo for the 2k2
