A friend and I installed the Place Racing-style CAI that runs through into my wheel well.

Since doing so, I've been having some problems... when I start the car with the MAF connected, it stalls out right after I start it. If I unplug the MAF, I can get it going (but it stalls randomly) and the car starts "shuddering" every time I hit 2250 RPM.

I already tried swapping out the MAF sensor, checked all the hoses for leaks (or so I think), and now I'm stumped. Anybody have a problem like this before? Any info is much appreciated!

 

Sounds like an air intake leak. Has to be somewhere on the intake. Getting to much air. Can you keep it running if you hold the gas down some?

 

Yeah, I can. I had it running at about 40mph on cruise control and it didn't stall until I stopped. It seems to run fine if you keep it at about 2000 RPM. Every time I put it into reverse it would stall as well, unless I gave it some gas right away.

 

Maybe you have the MAF installed the other way around?

 

Sure sounds like a MAF problem. As someone said are you sure you put it the right way? The arrow should be pointing towards the engine. Other then that did you happen to drop your MAF at all? They are pretty sensitive. Did you hook up the IACV and valve cover breather line?

 

x2 the part where the MAF adaptor is installed is the same side the air filter section should be.....otherwise maybe you should re-gorund your MAf and see what happens

 

There's a flange on the CAI that can only connect to the MAF in 1 way.. so it's installed correctly. I'm going to try checking for leaks and swapping out the MAF wiring harness with another.. any other suggestions while I'm in there?

Please make sure your iacv tube is hooked up.

 

+1 i had the same prob but mines kept falling of and my car would just stall.

 

All 3 tubes and the temp. sensor are hooked up.. I'll check the connectors this afternoon and make sure they're all snug.

 

Have you ran codes?

 

Yeah, the only code I got was the MAF code when the MAF was unplugged. Other than that, no CEL and no codes.

 

I had the same thing when I jerry-rigged a short ram on my car. Make sure that there is nothing blocking the airflow, and that there is no leaks after the MAF.

 

That/s actually not entirely true, it’s more a matter of unmetered air (blind air) getting into the engine, and the MAF doesn’t see it so it does not get compensated for.

Also, for us to really help, we need a picture of the engine bay, most namely in the TB/MAF/PCV breather area.

 

I'll take a pic as soon as I can and post it. I checked last night, and the MAF isn't backwards and all hoses appear to be connected properly.. the only thing in line between the MAF and the TB is the stock flexible boot, which I reused from my old intake setup (so I doubt that's leaking). It could very well be the MAF wiring harness.. I'll try swapping it out.

Vacuum leak somewhere and OHM test the MAF

 

How about a voltage test instead?

 

just check the maf and that the tubes are pluged correctly, we dont want vacuumm leaks
