Time to clean my K&N again... oil Spray or not to oil spray?

So this is the 2nd time I am gonna be cleaning my K&N short ram, it is in need of cleaning imo... Last time I cleaned it was about 15K ago and it looks pretty dirty(and it has some battery power corration stuff on it....

Now I used the K&N cleaning kit you can buy for it the last time, but I heard on here a while back that the oil that the kit uses is bad for your MAF... Now it makes sense in a way, but how bad could it be? I mean, I don't soak it, but I coated it in even sprays and it has been done wonders like mentioned in the instuctions...

but if it is bad... why would K&N, a company that knows perfromence and cars, sell something that could degrade or ruin an important sensor in your car?

Now, and I wondering if I should clean it with just a the cleaner and not spray it with the oil stuff it comes with... The last thing I need is a MAF to go by the oil residue.

I mean after all, the oil just acts as a tack for more dirt coming though... Eventhough K&N claims the oil gives a little bit more HP(which I doubt)

There is no problem with oiling the filter in fact you have to oil it otherwise dirt will get through to your motor.

The only reason peoples MAFs get messed up is because they over oil the filter.

Over 100,000 miles on my K&N, it gets cleaned & oiled every spring.
MAF sensor gets cleaned too, never had a problem.
Always use the oil, the filter doesn't work without it.

just a question guys
Can you use a cleaning kit which is non K&N ?
Also my K&N is a bit busted at a spot where it is rubbing a little against the battery cable. I have to sort something out so that the filter is not rubbing anymore. But if I keep on driving with that "bruised" filter do you think that would eventually have an effect on the MAF ? And therefore should I get a new filter right away or just clean the old one and reuse it?

If it is a cotton type then yes, I would not see an issue, but if it s a paper type... then NO.. DO not do it... IT will ruin it and make it worse for air flow.
