Not tops on the noise, but:

Fuzz? probably something in the air with the right ionization to attract to the terminal. Maybe a mold or something, but I doubt it. Spray on some brake cleaner to clean it.

Ussually happens when the battery is getting near the end of its life or the terminals are not tight enough. Make sure they're tight and get your battery tested.

Have an exhaust shop weld in an extra resonator, fit the biggest one you can in any spot that there's room. It will make a big diff

The blue stuff is battery acid....

Get a newer cattman y pipe if you have the $. The new flex section on those are about 8-10 inches IIRC.

IMO, that's not going to do much for the bees in the can sound he's hearing.

OP, if you're in a pinch and can't afford a quality y-pipe *cough*Cattman*cough* then I'd use header/exhaust wrap as I think it's the cheapest and easiest alternative. And since the y-pipe isn't the best to begin with anyway, I wouldn't worry about the ill side effects exhaust wrapping causes.

Why is a Y pipe not the best to begin with?

Poor wording on my part. I was only referring to his buzzing Warspeed y-pipe, not y-pipes in general.

A y-pipe is a very good bang for the buck mod.

Oh ok thanks! So the Budget Y pipe is going to be ok in my 96? I want to keep the cost down, so I don't want to drop over $400.00 for a stock Y pipe, so enter Budget's Y pipe. However the rest of the exhaust will be stock, and I don't want it loud.

Thanks,
Zack

That should work. Here's a few more quick links I found where the header wrap was affordable...

To do the job right, yes you'll have to remove the y-pipe in order to wrap it tightly. Wrapping it tightly and evenly is a must.

Shady, I also have the "highly regarded" warpspeed. I wrapped it and there is a notisable difference in the sound. Here are some pics.

If you wrap it, don't forget to seal it.

what ill side-effects are caused by wrapping? im thinking about doing this as my OBX headers are ZZZ-ing like crazy. i may just replace the 2 flex sections with one large one to see if thats the case.

The retained heat will do headers/y-pipes in. The metal gets so hot that is actually changes the structure, the metal literally rots from the constant overheating. Warranties are void because of this. It you remove the wrap down the road you will see the metal has a funny very large grain size, you can see this on the outside of the pipe, the metal is no longer smooth but looks like a coarse sand. So, IMO don't wrap unless you plan on replacing your stuff down the road.

Ask any header manufacturer, and they'll tell ya that the warranty will be voided if you add header wrap. Header wrap is for the professional race car drivers that rebuild their engines constantly and swap in new parts.

It is good for reducing temps though...at the expense of the header/y-pipe.

Spray sealant. You can buy it wherever you get the wrap.
I just put 1 layer. The wrap comes with directions.

I have a tornado type sound on my budget Y. Not so much bee in the can, but I that is one reason why I never bought a warpspeed pipe. O and get battery spray protector, That is what I put on my battery when it startered to get nasty.
