Hi Shing, I saw your site regarding the Mobil oil being good for 7500 miles. Pretty spiffy stuff there. Is that oil regular oil or synthetic? Either way, how much does it cost for a Maxima's worth? Thanks

if it said mobil *1* it can only be synthetic, i pay slightly less than $4 and quart
4x4.25(capacity)=$17 on oil, approximately.

good deal

Kenneth, that is a darn good deal on the mobil 1 synthetic--where do you get your oil if I may inquire...walmart usually has them for 4.39 and most places have that for more.

As to Shing's test, I was reading a couple of car care books and guess what? they say that even on normal oil (non_synthetics) the oil change should be 7500 miles and guess what synthetic can do. whewww...guess I have been blowing my money all these years on ignorance.

I think since I just switched over to syntethic, the next oil change will be 7500...

Re: good deal

used my (dependent) military id to stock up at an army post.

yeah, preludes with regular oil have service intervals of 7.5k in their documentation. i am glad shingles had these test also.

Most new cars seem to be 7.5k oil change. My dad's 2000 3.2TL is 7500 miles between changes. Of course, the dealer recommends 3k... bastards drained out our synthetic oil after only 4k miles on it. Idiots.

BTW, my dad ran Mobil 1 or Havoline Synthetic in my 1992 Saturn with 12k changes for several years and it's running perfectly fine. Scary, huh? (of course, the car did ONLY highway driving... right now if I tried to change it every 12k with my 50-50 driving + daily trips to 4000 rpm + the motor would probably size by 9k miles

Yep.. all the shops have their customers brainwashed into thinking they need to change their motor oil every 3K miles, which is complete nonsense because the engines of today are built to much tighter specs than the yesteryears. Oil technology and quality is far superior over the previous generations of motor oil. I go 12,000 miles on my Amsoil motor oil. Oil filter is changed every 6K miles.
