According to the 1998 FSM page.EC-4

P0500 [0104] Vehicle speed sen/circ
P0600 [0504] A/T Comm Line

p.EC-299

P0500 [0104] The almost 0 MPH signal from the vehicle speed sensor is entered to ECM even wen the vehicle is driving.
Check: Harness or connector (The vehicle speed sensor circuit is open or shorted)
Check: Vehicle speed sensor

p.EC-314

P0600 [0504] ECM receives incorrect voltage from TCM (Transmission Control Module) continuously.
Check: Harness or connectors (The circuit between ECM and TCM (Transmission Control Module) is open or shorted)
Check: TCM

it could be the speedo itself. maybe you can find a used one at the junkyard or ebay. Make sure to test the VSS 1st by using the Cruise Control for a while and see if it stays on. If the car shifts fine then i wouldnt worry about he TCM bc if it was bad the car would go into limp mode and not shift. I had the same problem not to long ago and its was the connections on the back of the speedo, but u said u tighten the screws so it might be the speedo.

*edit*
Almost forgot, might as well do the steps to get tranny codes if any http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ere-first.html

remember the 1st long flash means the start of flashes so dont count that one
