SC belt ripped to shreds
SC belt ripped to shreds
I was driving home last night and my SC belt started clinking. Luckily it snapped as I was pulling in my drive way. Is this common or is there more damage? I know this has happened to other peeps but why does it happen?
Re: SC belt ripped to shreds

it's not a rare problem. how many miles was on the belt? SCs kills the life of the belt. i would say inspect the belt every 3K for frays and etc. if u see it start, it's going to get worst quick. after 10-12K i would think about getting a new belt just to be safe.

Are all belts the same or would they make stronger or thicker ones for this type of application?

in this case...i don't think there's a stronger belt out there. just go w/ a quality one and learn to pull the SC often. IMO there should be reinforced SC belt. you can always look around.

I lost a belt too,
It was after about 25,000 miles that I had it on the car and the SC ate up a belt. The reason why the belt went was because the SC idler pulley bearings were shot and it started to grind the side of the pulley down and wear the belt. Having had any problems since.

I snapped my belt a while ago. I think it was because I had it tensioned too much. My bearings were also shot as well as my seals. Check that link out, be glad you didn't do that, like I did.
