DIY Wheel rash/curb repair (33 pictures 3.75mb)

My Work SC1 wheels were damaged in an accident a few months back. I finally got around to repairing them.

I spent less than 2 hours fixing this wheel. This wheel was mounted on the rear driver-side of the Lexus (as pictured). I am happy with the results of the repair.

Here are the pictures from the accident; that shows how the wheel was affected from the accident.

Here is the damage from the accident.

I spent less than 5 minutes with my angle grinder (w/ 60 grit sanding disc) to remove the metal shards from the damaged portions of the wheel.

I had my friend TIG weld some aluminum to the damaged portions of the wheel.

Welds (before grinding them smooth):

Well done! Looks just as good as the work I paid quite a bit to have done on my Racing Harts.

That is IMPRESSIVE! I was thinking that this would be another 'fill scratches with JB Weld and paint', but this is a great solution for a lot of the wheel lips I have.

BTW: Schwerts are one of my favorite wheels ever.

I know this is an old post but Great Job!! Just wondering though, I have some road rashed wheels too and wondering if after polishing you would need to apply some wheel clear coat or would reapplying metal wheel polisher continue to work??

Billet is the absolute best metal polish i have ever used in my life...I used it a few years back after sanding and polishing the frame on my streetbike and everyone thought i had it dipped.

Great question...I too need to refinish a couple rashes and my clear coat is actually peeling slightly so I wonder what's the best thing. Did you end up trying anything yet?
