VQ35 swap?

Hey everyone...tried searching around on here but couldnt find much, was wondering what exactly is involved with the 3.5 swap? How much work and what kind of custom work, if any, would i have to do? Also can i use my 5speed tranny and 98 ecu? Thanks in advance for any input.

You'll have to make an account, but this is a good thread.

For starters, there's a nice sticky in the all motor forum.

http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/4...swap-info.html

And searching comes up with TONS of good info.

im deffinetly Gonna be saving up for this swap in the next week or two, i wanna do the full 3.5 swap, 02 IM and some sort of aggressive cams.

but i had a few questions myself, will my stock motor mounts hold the 3.5 and will my stock automatic hold up to the torque from the 3.5? or will i need motor/tranny in all?

The block of the 3.0 and 3.5 are pretty much the same and will bolt right in. If your tranny is in good condition you should be fine but don't expect it to hold up to a full season of drag racing without a rebuild.

i say swap out the tranny for a 6spd and get the complete swap the first time around, but if you still want to have an auto tranny i would get it rebuilt...

Aack bring up a good point...I also think the 4ats are solid. Its the shift solenoids that go on them.

How well does the 5 speed manual handle the torque verses the 6 speed manual?

That's good to know. I'd rather spend less money and just get the Engine. My 5speed has been rebuilt with an upgraded clutch.

I also noticed the second link K-Ryder posted was from a guy in UT? http://vq35.com/blog/2010/06/vq35-swap/

He said in his blog he'd do swaps in UT for $3000. I was wondering if anyone knew who this person is and if they are still around or on the Org. I would like to consult with them on doing a swap. I'd rather someone experienced do it for a little more then risk pulling my whole car apart and not being able to figure it out.

Yeah, considering many of us are pushing 350+ hp through it with just upgraded clutches, I'd say it holds up pretty good.

It seems you're not reading the links we've provided, or you'd know the answers to those questions.

The 3.0 ECU has no means of controlling the variable timing. The sprockets all need to be swapped for 3.0 because its a different design chain I think. The whole point of the timing swap is to remove the VT.
