Saw a new '12 today
While at my dealership, I checked out the new 2012 max. New grill design, new wheel design, new smoked tail lights look fantastic......When did they dump the Magenta stiching on the seats?
Wish I had never seen it

I spent time Thursday wandering around the '12 Maximas on my dealer's back lot, and was captivated by the bright yellow rubber windshield wiper blade fillers. I actually like the '12 wheels, too.
The new TPMS system tire valves are larger and more noticable than the '09 thru '11 valves. That is because the new (and useful) system actually gives separate info for each tire.
The first two '12s I checked out had FACTORY MSRPs over $41K, and when the dealer sticker was added, the price was over $43K. Those two had the Premium and Tech packages, just like mine. Thank goodness Nissan is vastly easier to deal with on price than makes such as Infiniti and Lexus.
In my opinion, when we consider the actual price the dealers will let these beauties go for, and look at all the dozens of goodies on them, they are one of the best buys available in the near-luxury field.
IMO the 2012 has improved on nothing vs previous years.
the grille design now has nothing to do with the original car design.
the rear tails now look like cheap, ebay replacements.
the wheel design belongs on a 2 door sports car, not a 4 door luxo sport sedan.
they changed it for the sake of having to changed it, but not for the sake of improving it.
Usually, a new minor change year design makes one desire the changes. Like the changes to the hyundai genesis sedan with the led drl and rear drl lamps. Like the lexus IS upgrades, the lexus ES upgrades..etc.

the grill resembles the original one thats the point in "refreshing it".
the tails DO NOT look cheap compared to ebay ones not even close.
Wheel design... well I think it could've been better and way lighter!
As for luxury? not even close no luxury sedan comes with cloth as an option... Cant compare it to a lexus, hyundai dont have a luxury line so they do what they can.
And yes they did change it just to say "we refreshed it", but there are small but over all "improvements" to say.
But I do think they made some mistakes in taking away stuff from the car as the style got older and I think I know why... G Sedan!

i agree with BBMaxi i think the new 2012 tail lights look cheap as hell, the lining around them is not attractive imo.
the grill looks straight, i think i like the 2011 sport grill better though.
wheel design is ok...fake me out Rays...they shoulda just put real Rays on the sport...
the interior changes are nice

The '12 change I REALLY appreciate is a TPMS system that actually WORKS! instead of a little light that tells us one or more of our tires may or may not be low on air, we have a REAL system that gives us the actual psi of each tire displayed right on the dash. That is worth more than exterior cosmetic changes for me.
I think BBmaxi may have overlooked the new Limited Edition Package for the 'S'. That is quite a change, and is a very good deal for the money.
I also like the added exterior colors. Java Metallic and Dark Slate are both very nice.
Some foks expect cosmetic tweaks that improve the car's look with the mid-gen changeover, but often, the changeover does not really improve the looks at all.
I say this from experience, as I remember being disappointed when the 1954 Chevy BelAir came our with cosmetic tweaks, and it was immediately obvious to me that my 1953 BelAir actually looked much better than the 1954.
I also remember the 3rd gen Maxima midseason change. The '85 and '86 Maximas had the turbo wheels, while the '87 and '88 had slick wheels. Those were almost exactly the same cars, but with a change in wheels that was about as radical as could possibly have been made. I preferred the turbo wheels on the two matching '85s my wife and I had.
I also remember the 5th gen mid-gen change between the '01 and the '02 Maxima. The '00 and '01 Maximas had attractive tail light assemblies, while the '02 and '03 changed to garish chrome tail light surrounds. I liked my '00 SE tail lights much better than my wife's '02 SE tail lights.
I could go on with this, but I have already said too much.

2012 Maxima
In 52 years of buying cars, I have rarely bought the same car twice.
My GF and I liked the 2007 Maxima so much that, at 85K miles, I took it over as my DD and in November bought her a new 2012 Maxima SV. What a difference 5 years make!!!! Like night and day.
We both like the XMSirius radio service, the NAV,the actual tire pressure readings, the rear screen, and the overall looks of the car. Also the new car feels "tighter" but that may just be a function of the aging of the 2007 car.
Just my $.02 worth.

But anyway for me the most important update was to the 3.5 from 3.0

But on topic the 12 has actually grown on me as far as the taillights are concerned and the rim update for non sport. But I'm never a fan of decontenting.
