Has any testing been done? Id like to see some actual temp measurements.


Seems the 7th gen motor would not have as drastic temp drops for the intake manifold.

I would tend to agree here, the resin used to make the new manifolds is no more an insulator than the phenolic you are using. Should any gains be realized it would be purely from the increase in plenum & runner volumes. An Infrared Thermometer test with the engine running at at full operating temp will heat soak the IM the same with or with out the spacers (assuming equal run times for both)

 

Subbed for the results Cory as I also have a 7th gen as you already know but I thought one of the reasons they went with the plastic manifold was for heat soak. I never experience any heat soak in 7th gen while sitting in traffic mid afternoon South Florida heat.

Not really sure why a 40 degree temp drop is said in this thread. Pretty much false advertising. Since there is no test data on the 7th gen, the claims should not be the same as the other motors.


Do you stand behind your 40 degree temp drop claim? I could use a set of these on my motor, maybe ill see what temp change there is. I'm not sure tho the spacer looks kinda thick, the 09 motor in 02 really dont have much room. The 7th gen has a lot more.

But still a drop! Would make a good addition to my 5.7 gen, 6mt FTW

Do you have any data on this testing? Plastic doesn't transfer heat very well... Most of the heat that actually gets into it will be from ambient air rather than its connection with the metal LIM. I'm sure SurraTT would be happy to do some independent testing for you.

Just strange there was no data posted when the test was finished. Method of testing, actual temps... etc.

 

IAT reduction was measured with an OBD-II tool pulling info from the ECU. Idle temperatures (compared to testing done prior to the thermal spacers) ranged 10-25 degrees cooler than before. Cory listed the maximum "gains" reported as any manufacturer would.

Here's a link to the install/results thread if you wanna check out our results of testing it on a Dyno. There's a video of the dyno runs too if you wanna watch. After getting a solid baseline, our tests showed a 10 HP and 9 ft/lb gain, primarily seen in the upper power band.

I think we all agree that a plastic manifold absorbs less heat than previous generations metal manifolds; the spacers do help with controlling temperatures (specifically the heat soak when idling) and there are gains whether from the lower temps or increased space the spacers provide.

I also have the manifold spacers installed and i dont believe that it only adds 10whp and 9tq because of the fact that it does feel to add more like 20hp. I also have noticed the exhaust note is deeper and now my exhaust started to pop @ 6500-7000rpms (ask cory i revved it in front of him). What would be nice is for the 5.7 gen (which i thought was pretty funny) to do a b4 and after spacer install as the 6mt would NOT have the same issues as the CVT does on a dyno.

The spacer took me less then 1hr to install and i did it in front of cory's house the only pain in the *** for me was the two double headed bolts on the sides.
