Racingline Y-Pipe Installation

I purchased the Racingline Y-Pipe during the The Black Friday sale and just recently installed it myself. Pretty much a straight forward job.
One thing I did become aware of is the amount of heat shielding on the factory pipe once I had it removed.
Nissan obviously installed this shielding for a reason.

So prior to reinstalling the new Racingline Y-pipe I decided to be a bit proactive and wrap the new pipe with thermal wrap on the forward most tubes of the Y-pipe that are in close vacinity to the tranny and oil pan.
As most of us know additional heat is not what this engine needs.
Just something to think about before installation as it's much easier to do than after.
Sorry if this is old news but I didn't see this mentioned before.

I like it. I can hear a sound difference. Not so much an increase in sound more like a pipey tone difference as heard from inside the car.
It may be a bit louder outside when under acceration but not much.
As far as power goes It does seem to exhibit an increase in the mid-range,
not sure of the top end yet.
The low end seems to be pretty much the same to me.
This is without any other intake or exhaust mods.

It doesn't seem to be much out there for the 7th Gem Maxima's IMO! I just found out that the Borla catback was made of only 2.5" tubing! To me the stock looks almost 3" in diameter and fabbing a workable, power producing, performance exhaust should be even easier with all that room under the chassis compared to our 5.5th Gens.....a large round 7" case with a 3" inlet/ dual 2.5" outlet (12762) muffler under the floor would be easy and a couple of 12276 for each side should be quiet and better flowing than the stock system....even if there is some more room up front an additional 3" in/out, 7" round case x 14" (12619) can be added!

I installed the Racingline Y-pipe recently myself and pretty much agree with the OP regarding the sound, performance, etc. I did weigh the stock Y-pipe and the RL Y-pipe prior to install. The RL Y-pipe is 8 lbs lighter.

Also, very important, if/when you remove your stock Y-pipe, I highly recommend you coat all the mounting bolts with anti-sieze compound. I didn't do this originally and now I've got a mess.

I am currently fighting several bolts that seized on the cat flanges. One of the nuts completely stripped out the thread on the stud and is now useless. I had to replace 2 of the other stock bolts due to this problem. I may end up having to replace the cats at some point, or drill out the seized bolts/studs and re-thread. This has really turned into a nightmare!

Save yourself all these headaches and slather on the anti-seize compound generously...

Okay lets get this out in the open.......I am OLD....(if its TOO LOUD, your too old).... I have some history lets say with NISSAN.....I am really interested in MPG gains in the Y pipe...losing the 3rd cat interest me........most people who purchase this are looking for sound and HP......but when your older than dirt and your first car was a 66 mustang fastback and was only 6 years old(you do the math)...your old and MPG is very important at this AGE . Dont get me wrong, if I wanted great MPG I would have purchased a TAMPON...oops I mean a Prius or any other gutless wonder. Does anyone who DOES NOT RACE from stop light to stop light have a accurate listing of the MPG gains?

After 2 weeks driving I see ZERO mpg improvement. Still averaging 22.8 mpg..I drive 24 miles each way to work down a 2 lane state route. I've driven 50+ miles at a stretch on the highway and the BEST mpg I've seen is 22.9

I have pretty much thought as much...and thank you very much for the QUICK reply. In the OLD DAYS ....Free up the intake and free up the exhaust= great gas Milage. But in the days of computers(modern cars) It really does not matter what you do in the way of exhaust and intake as MPG is concerned....... I will keep on my quest to see if I can get better MPG with my 2011 SV Maxima and post results both NEG and POS.
