Anyone with a cosmo pulley?

Its been a while since being in this section so pardon my noobism with the 3.0's again lol... I have a 01AE and ordered a cosmo lightweight crank pulley, im only assuming that because the 5th gen uses the same pulley then its safe to say they use the same belts also???, is there anyone in here with the cosmo pulley and what belt size did you use??? thx

Never even heard of the Cosmo pulley.

To find a belt size all you have to do is get a piece of yarn, run it around the correct pulleys, not too tight though, just about under a half of an inch of play, tie a knot, take the string off, cut it measure it, take it to your local auto parts store and tell em you need some belts, the rest is self explanitory.

And yes you can drive around for a little bit w/o the accessories, when my A/C+Alt belt broke I drove for about 4 miles to the auto parts store.

If its not underdrive its the same size as stock.....you didnt say it was or not so to answer your question youd need to be specify that... but nonunderdrive is oem belt.obviously... underdrive...ask vendor...if no reply ask unorthadox racing what size belts theirs use and try a belt in that size

its a tad smaller... its a canadian company... they sell way more than just pulley and not only deal with maximas... idk if many people heard of it before but a buddy is also using it on his 5.5 (they make em for 95-01, and 02-08) i believe... its $80 shipped vs unorthodox for like $200+ lol... (now lets see if ima really make these guys famous lol) ive purchased from these guys before, i bought one for my 5.5 when i had it... no complains from anybody i know with em (the few i know n read about)... ill just take it to the shop and ask em what belt should i use, or maybe even pay for the install

I bought the one for the 6thgen and it's been working good so far. It's way lighter than the stock by far, as for the belts I had to go three size less smaller than the size recommended because it was tightened to the max and it was still squeeling. They provided two sizes and they both squeel after tightening to the max so I went one size smaller and it worked good.

Awww chit... $80?!?!? I'm gettin it now.

Remember, the VQ30 is a well internally balanced motor, not a V8, do not apply 1950s concepts on this motor in regards to lightweight pulleys.

Kthx.

I figured not a lot of people were aware of these as when you mention pulley all you hear is OBX and Unorthodox, i figure this was just as good... same weight i believe.. 1.5lbs not expecting any crazy gains maybe a 2-5whp bump to the peak side... i was talking to smokeVQ yesterday and he said he had to go with a size smaller than recommended also... smh

I guess that's the way to go, if the vendor refuses to answer your emails.

Ive heard that these sometimes wear out where the seal rides on the aluminum, unorthodox pulleys have a steel ring slipped over (where the seal is) so that there is no wear and no leaks. Do they make a stock size one? Price isnt bad.

dont really know much about the ones for the 3.0 but ive never heard of this problem.. im sure the seals would be a good replacement when doing these, who knows the person whoever had that problem may have already have a bad seal... i also had a motostorm one before they discontinued and it worked fine for me

Go to URs site to get the part numbers for the belts. I have some no name pulley and 2 URs. They are the same size so I'd assume this brand is just another knock off.
As for the oil seal issue make sure the snout of your pulley has a steel insert. If its all aluminum the seal will eat the aluminum and develop a leak.
The only difference on the 3.5l version is the lack of the crank sensor timing ring.

UD pulleys arent worth the hassle IMO but I def think they will give you a few ponies unlike what others think. Congrats on the new shiny thing

Just got mine in today, will have it on in about a week. The paper that came with it tells you the belt sizes. Can anyone verify if its correct?

Facepalm @ the belt questions..... I don't think you guys should be attempting crank pulley installs if the belt size worries you the most.

Just my 2cents.

Whenever things stop breaking on le white car I'll get around to getting this badboy for it.

O.k so it was a warm 70* out n with the help of shiftmax_md I got aroun to installing the pulley, just got in the house n on the cell but to give this thread n update the install went pretty decent id say, the belts I had worked with no squeeling right now lol... it used the stock power steerin belt and (I actually can't remember the size I listed earlier for the AC n alternator, but it used 1 new belt n 1 OEM ize belt... had to fully take the belt tensioner off to get the belt to go on, fit tighter than a damn condom lol

Overall feel of it..... I felt absolutely no power gain whatsoever lol not that I was expecting it to, I didn't realy notice a more responsive car but I will say my windows definately went down faster than before lol.... I'm sure it freed up 1 or 2whp but overall I'm happy with the install n mod

This with a lightened fly wheel will be the most beneficial. Can't wait for my LSD trannny to get in.

This with lightened flywheel wont make much of a.difference either....nothing noticeable over just the pulley.. maybe with a bunch of supporting mods it will but i got lightweight flywheel and had a lightweight pulley...didnt even notice gains...im sure theres a few but nothing noticeable, but its nice and shiny

I have all the bolt ons but what you notice is a faster rev, if you are looking at a WHP jump you are looking at it wrong.
