99 Maxima AC issues

Hi everyone I am having trouble with my Air conditioner in my 99 Maxima. The condenser and blower fan and compressor all seem to be working, I even tried to get an AC recharge and was told by two different places that the freon was good, but still no cold air. So I had my mechanic check the switch that turn the heat over to the AC and it is functioning properly, still no AC. When you run the car with the AC on and feel the pipe that is usually cold when running the AC and it is warm not cold at all. So what could it be? Why wouldnt that pipe be cold if the freon is good the compressor kicks on, it's blowing hot air and the condenser is fully functional??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....thanks

could be the compressor, it runs, but it could be worn out and isnt compressing properly, this happened with my car. no leaks anywhere, freon was always full, compressor was kicking on, but it never blew cold. swapped it out with a new one, vacuumed the system and filled it with freon, now it blows plenty cold, especially useful in texas heat.
good luck

If you switch the controls to heat, can you feel a temperature difference when you change the temperature setting from all the way hot to all the way cold?

do you have gauges for a/c. if not you can rent some from autozone for a deposit. then let us know what the gauge readings are, high side and low side, outside temperature in the shade. A video of gauges while operating, and not operating air conditioning and between the two would help a lot. this way we/I can give you a better insight as to what is going on.

Yeah, the only way to know for sure is to check the pressures with A/C gauges. Should be around Low=22 & High=160 at about 72 degrees (not sure of the exact range without looking them up).

My guess is that your low side is probably too high.

Good luck.

Gauge readings and what they mean

(degrees F) | (psi) | (psi)
Ambient temp | low side | high side |

65 | 25-35 | 135-155
70 | 35-40 | 145-160
75 | 35-45 | 150-170
80 | 40-50 | 175-210
85 | 45-55 | 225-250
90 | 45-55 | 250-270
95 | 50-55 | 275-300
100 | 50-55 | 315-325
105 | 50-55 | 330-335
110 | 50-55 | 340-345

  • Both gauges low means refrigerant is low.
  • Both gauges high means too much refrigerant. *please do not vent in to air. it is also illegal in USA
  • Low gauge is too low and high gauge is too high usually means blocked metering device (orifice tube or expansion valve) *especially if low side gauge shows a vacuum*
  • Low gauge is too high and High gauge is too low usually means faulty compressor.
MAKE SURE COMPRESSOR IS CYCLED ON BY CHECKING TO SEE IF THE CENTER OF PULLEY IS SPINNING. IF NOT COMPRESSOR IS NOT ENGAGED.
Good luck and keep us posted.
