Removing Spark Plugs

Hey,
I was changing my spark plugs the other day but had a problem with one. It is the one on the top right. I moved everything out of the way and had space to work with but had one problem. It seemed that my socket was not holding it good enough to get it out of the whole. I got all the others out but this one would not grip it enough or somethign so when I undid it and tried to pull it out , it was left behind in the shaft.

Does anyone have any particular tips for getting it out of there? Any suggestions?

SuDZ

no.. you know the long attachment that goes in the socket.. tape from the bottom of the attachment over the socket.. so it holds it firmly in place..

i changed my spark plugs last night actually, alof with the STS install ;-) heh

I used a magnet to pull out the sparkplug. the magnet was attached to a moveable type wire. Something you could probably pick up at any autoshop. OR... you could make yoru own.. just a string with a magnet attached to it.

Cool. I can try that right in the parking lot on lunchbreak. Maybe I will try that before buying the magnets or whatever first.

Mutiplexor, that may not be a very good thing.

You might want to check out this thread I found for you as an FYI

arg!

One guy mentionned that it might not be good to drive on it like that for months.... uhm off the top of anyones head... any idea how much that would cost to fix? I'm assuming i would have to replace the gasket and that's pretty much it, if i even tried to do it myself...

Oh, Thanks a bunch SuDZ for helping me find that thread. I did a search before, but never came accross it.

Thanks for your help guys. I just ran out on my lunch and changed those last stuck plugs. I ended up using one of those mechanical claw type thing I found at the hardware store up the street. I'm Glad I am no longer running on 4 plugs new and 2 old ones.

Yeah and since they are supposed to be good for like 70K or so Shouldnt have to worry about them again. Are you gonna do anything to look into your oily plugs?

To make this job even easier...

I was in sears the other day browsing the tools, and I found the perfect tool for this. Its basically a telescoping pointer that you'd think of teachers using with a magnet on the end. I got the smallest one that they had, which they claim can hold up to 8 pounds or something like that. More than enough for a spark plug.

All this for only $2.99!

How long extension?

How long extension did you guys use? I just bought a 10" from Sears but am not sure if it's long enough? First time changing plugs. The next length up is 20" and that seems way to long.

10 inches should do it. I used like a 6inch on the fronts and on the backs it was deeper so I added around another 3 inch onto that one. Your ten should get all the way down but on the pack, the one furthese to the right, move some of the stuff out of the way on top by unbolting and unplugging it. If you do it will give you plenty of extra space to move around in.
