Engine rattle/ticking at 1600 RPM
Engine rattle/ticking at 1600 RPM
Over the past few weeks I have noticed a rattling noise occurring right at 1600 rpm. The noise occurs both when driving and when I rev the engine while in Neutral/Park. The noise is especially annoying under moderate acceleration because the CVT likes to stay right around 1600. Its 2009 SV Prem/Tech with 70k miles. Others have mentioned that it may be the Heat shield, but have checked mine and ruled it out. Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Bryan

I am new here but I have trolled for a while
anyway I am having the same problem in my 2009 Max SV/Sport. I haven't taken it to Nissan yet but was wondering if anybody knew what it may be. Thanks

If it happens in park after warmed up unfortunately I probably know exactly what it is
Jeeze guys, so quick to pull the gun in the bearing issue, anyways as they stated it could be the crank bearings! But from what you've stated, it sounds more like bad mounts, either engine or trans! I would look for more vibration with the engine running, have someone rev it while you look, as with that milage it not uncommon for something to have rattled loose, ie; exhaust heat shields, ect. Check the obvious and simple before jumping to a huge overtaking like bearing!

I'm not going to sit here and say you guys don't have problems. However, traditionally the maxima engine has always been solid.
It's almost like omg my engine is making a noise when literally it is just running. Lol. Again I'm not downsizing the legitimate issues ppl are facing. But let's be reasonable here. If you read
your manual and follow the 'recommended' measures I'm almost certain many would not be so high strung over some noises or somewhat unusual behavior.
+1

You guys with 7th gen cars that don't have engine issues go vote in the poll in the buyer beware thread
So far we have 12 people participating and 50% have or had a bearing issue.
Thanks

I hear ya! Just did sir!! It's horrible to read that though, I hope your Maxima is running like a top now!!
I'm all set, given the $3200 warranty Nissan gave me I COULD actually make out better as my car now has a bumper to bumper until 2021. My fear is that one guy had his block replaced and the bearing noise came back within months .
My goal at this point it to make sure people check as the sooner you get it diagnosed IMO the more Nissan will give as compensation
So far we have 13 vote, 6 have bearing issues. Hopefully the trend shows many more cars without the issue.

I traded an Infiniti with 160K miles for the Maxima, even WITHOUT the engine issue the Maxima has had more (2) unscheduled service visits than the Infiniti had in it's lifetime
Hopefully going forward that changes
