So, in the middle of swapping upper oil pans, I noticed that there is an oil baffle plate on the '05 block AND a oil baffle plate on the '02 upper oil pan.
Which one to keep? I was planning on removing the '02 baffle and leave the '05 block as is, but wanted others ideas...

Another little problem I ran into today was swaping the upper oil pan to the new engine. It didn't have enough clearance to seal tight with the block. So here where it took a little thinking. The old 02' engine has a baffle screwed at the bottom of the upper oil pan where the 07' engine doesnt have a baffle in the same location. Its baffle is located at the bottom of the block where the very top of the upper oil pan meets. Both baffles don't work together at the same time so we removed the one from the 07' and left the baffle in the 02' oil pan.. The baffle is just something for the oil to move around.
Also, anyone know what these would have been attached to internally? I found two of them in the '02 oil pan...

I think I ended up keeping the 06 baffle when I swapped, but I evaluated it probably made little or no difference. As for the screw...hmmm... I can't off the top of my head remember a Phillips head screw in the lower oilpan/block.
I would keep the one from the newer engine. But I doubt it will make a difference which one you use. I have taken my VQ35 apart few times (don't ask) and have never seen screw like that anywhere.
seems likely lol. Im not sure exactly what they are to, but they dont look designed to hold much stress, for a number of reasons, so I would venture to guess they go to something like the oil pickup tube, baffle plate, etc. (complete guesses) Of course, its also possible that they came from the top end and fell down through oil passages

How about that!. Looks identical! At least from the top. I won't be tearing the old engine apart to find out exactly what blew/broke, but that gives me a pretty good assumption where the screws came from.
