CV Joint Replacement ?'s
CV Joint Replacement ?'s
I replaced both of my CV Joints recently (this weekend), I wish I could say it went as smoothly as I would have hoped but I have a few worries still lingering in my mind after the job was completed. The driver side was a pain to insert, I managed to push it in with a bit of force using the outer portion to "pop" it in. Obviously I am worried I may have damaged the inner tulip during this process but it drives fine with no noise so hopefully I did not damage anything. Once I felt the ring slide into place I was gentle in pushing it the rest of the way. Being tired towards the end of the process there were a few steps I fear I may have left out, I did not apply grease to the oil seal on the tranny nor did I apply grease to the spindle knuckle rubber seal that rests against the outer portion of the CV spindle, please let me know if any of this is of major concern because I can certainly remove the joint and lubricate these points if need be. Like wise, I failed to do this on the passenger side joint as well, also, I removed the entire carrier bearing bracket from the passenger side as the old joint was seized proper and I did not have a bearing slide hammer tool to remove it. I cleaned the carrier bearing with a wire wheel and once the new shaft was in place it spun smooth with no seizing, but, I wish I would have applied anti-seize to the bearing surfaces, not really for ease of installation because it installed good, but for future service ease.
Any advice on this would be great, also, it is a '99 SE A/T 165,000 miles
