Any other V1 peeps out there?
Any other V1 peeps out there?
It's a niche market for sure; most people won't pay $400 for a radar detector...but those people are dumb.
I'm just kidding. But real talk, has any V1 owner had their software/hardware updated recently? I called yesterday but had to use the serial from my buddies but she said the new s/w will eliminate a lot of the K band from Audi, GMC, Caddy, etc., that's out in these streets....that said, his would cost $129 to update. Ka-ching!
She said it would be up to par with the ones being made now; I thought about buying a new one and putting mine on CL and maybe paying $100 for the new software plus getting all that other stuff (hardwire, AC thing, etc).

I have a V1, bought it new and have it every time I drive with me since April 2013. Over the course of those two years, there have been several firmware upgrades. My current software is 3.893, the latest is 3.8945.
It may be more cost effective to sell your V1 elsewhere, but call Valentine Research to see if they have any refurbished units. Refurbished units are units that have been returned within the 30-day return period offered to test the product, rechecked to ensure quality, then put back into rotation offered as a refurbished unit with a full 1 year warranty. They are hard to come by, but when you do get the chance to get one, it will cost $359 instead $400 + shipping. I think when I bought mine new, it was $400 + $20 in shipping. You can only get the refurbished units if you call in and ask. You can also add in the Android/iPhone Bluetooth dongle so you can pair it up with your smartphone and get even better coverage and features including radar segmentation and GPS learning and it'll total out to be the same as a new unit without the dongle. There is an app for Android (YaV1), independent app not from Valentine, that is highly regarded and plenty useful. Check out http://www.rdforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=159.
I convinced my friend to get one for her Accord this past April after she had seen it in action in my car. She called and got lucky since they only had one in stock. Got it for $380 shipped. Comes with the latest firmware and well worth the damn upgrade. There is little to no falsing at all. With the new firmware though, you may lose sensitivity and detection for K-band but it is worth the sacrifice in my opinion. For me to upgrade it would be $79 plus shipping but it also renews the 1 year warranty. Your call.
