ANC,ASE,PFCW and FEB questions

ANC - Active Noise Cancellation: What does this do?

ASE - Active Sound Enhancement: What does this do? From my understanding it makes more of an engine sound in the car in sport mode?

PFCW with FEB - Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) with Forward Emergency Braking (FEB): Does this only work with cruise control ? If not, how do I enabled it?

Thanks

From what I read PFCW and FEB activate themselves when forward speed is above 3 MPH, and you can turn them both off. Chapter 5 of your owners manual details it out for you.

ASE does provide piped in engine noise for your entertainment when you are in sport mode.

Don't know anything about ANC.

Noise cancelling applies to the microphones while on the phone. It helps eliminate much of the background noises, i.e. Traffic, road noise, wind, baby's screaming in the backseat (okay maybe not the last one).

Active sound enhancement, yes is suppose to put a little bit of the engine sound through the speakers. Honestly I haven't been able to notice this myself.

Predictive collision warning sounds an audible alert telling you a collision is possible. The car will apply brakes the second before a collision in an attempt to prevent impact.

Forward braking only applies to cruise yes.

Not just while on the phone, it's working 100% of the time. It's a noise frequency cancelling device. Makes the car seem "quieter" inside.

ANC and ASE are Bose proprietary technologies. In Bose equipped Maximas, speakers emit a frequency to eliminate some sounds you hear in the cabin to make the ride quieter (ANC). In sport mode, speakers emit sound to enhance the engine sound (ASE).

How the speakers do it? I have no clue. But I drove both an SV and SL and couldn't tell a difference in cabin sound or engine sound. The SV is already very quiet and sounds great under heavy throttle.

No. FEB Forward emergency braking is just that, emergency braking. If the car senses you are not paying attention or not applying the brakes hard enough it will jump in and apply more braking pressure to avoid a collision.

The one that works with cruise control is called Adaptive cruise control. If your car in in cruise control and you are catching up to the car in front of you it will back off on your cruise control speed setting usually using throttle adjustments.

I have neither of these options in my car, but from what I have read this is how this stuff works on other models.

Small point: The owner's manual states that it will not brake in time or hard enough to prevent the collision. It will just lighten the blow.

Another small point: It also applies the brakes. In fact, if the car in front of you slows to a stop, it will actually stop your car. I have done this myself several times. A very weird feeling!

True, there are many versions of this feature, one I seen is that the forward camera sees that the car in front of you is signaling to get off the highway, the adaptive cruise control might not do anything if it thinks the car will get off before you get to close. Another version is when you are in stop and go traffic the cruise control will do all the throttle and braking for you even braking to a complete stop. I don't know if I could get used to something like that. Self driving cars without driver input is just around the corner.
